External power socket

Hi all hope someone can help I had my first away days in my Swift Charisma 535 2005 and loved it however the first problem I came across was that to have a useful awning light I had to run an extension from one of the 2 power sockets in the van out the door. Is it possible to put an external power socket on the outside and if so are there any instructions on doing this task like the one for fitting a heater switch in this month’s mag.

I think that the Caravan club has a download on mains electrics in vans. However I think that any such work has to be done by a qualified person or at least certified by such. Otherwise might invalidate insurance.

Thanks for that I will look on the club site and get an electric friend to help

It's a fairly simple task if you know anything about electrics. There's an old article which should give you an idea of what's involved. See

You can always cut the hole, fit the socket and let somebody else do the wiring if you're not sure about that aspect.

hi, we have a 2005 Challenger and our van has an external mains socket in the battery locker. However I don't think Charisma's have an external socket. We have ordered a 2011 Charisma and it doesn't have an external mains socket as standard and have asked the dealership to fit one as an extra. Like previous posts have said check the external lockers for the socket if one has been fitted as standard. good luck. Lisa

I agree with others above. Double check your wet locker. My OH swore we didn't have one on our Swift; then I went to look.......
