Hi Swift2008,

We don't go until the 10th August so if you don't mind then that would be great.

Thanks,

Dave

No Problem. Will get something posted on our return.

What route are you using to Interlaken.

Hi Cookie

Sorry for delay in responding, 3rd day back at work :-( and it's carnage after a month off!

Firstly I'll direct you to Swift2008's thread where there's a bit of info on things to do etc...which you may find useful.

In addition to that I'll tell you a bit about the site itself.Firstly getting there, follow the motorway signs to Interlaken and go straight there, don't be tempted to go to Thun itself and take the road round the lake it looks very pretty on the map but is a caravan killer of a road in parts! When you get to Interlaken head for Interlaken West not Interlaken Ost, that will put you in the right area. On some of the signs are some camping signs with numbers for eg. camping 1-5 or camping 6-8. Manor Farm is number 1 so head for that, you will see what I mean when you get there.

The site itself can be quite cramped so if you value your privacy at all take a windbreak. An inflatable boat is a must in my opinion, we bought one out there and had great fun with it on the lake. Mind out for the swans with the young they can be a bit vicious but tend to get used to you after a while. You will need to hire an adaptor for the electric hook up, they will offer you this at reception anyway as theirs is a funny 3 pin affair the like of which I've never seen before. There is a refundable deposit of 25 francs for this. Amenities at the site are great, typically clean to the Swiss standard, showers will blow you off your feet! the best I've ever seen anywhere in the world! There is a washing room for the clothes and the cycles take an hour and cost 5 francs as will the driers. You find this under the reception block in the basement. If you are planning to hook into the water supply (each pitch tends to have a drain in the ground somewhere near it - just lift the cover and pop your hose in - then make sure you have 10 metres of hose and waste pipe with you. You may not need it all but we did, also make sure you have a radiator bleeding tool or a pair of pliers for the taps as they have no heads on them.

That's really all I can say apart from the pitch markings. You may be at a loss where your pitch is when you get to it, they are marked out with a funny system that's not at all obvious. Somewhere at four points near the pitch edge will be some little red blobs of paint, these denote the perimeter of your pitch and can be a little confusing. Ask another of the brits there if you need it explaining.

Enjoy it and let us know how you get on. But do come back to me if you've any worries at all or questions.

Cheers

Nick

hi,

Thanks for all that Nick..do you mean we need 10 metres of drainpipe, as normally drains are in the centre area of the pitch ?

Are there good cycle routes into Interlaken suitable for young children?and roughly how far is it?

thanks,

Dave

P.S. Swift2008,

We are going via Geneva as we have 4 nights at La Colombiere and we are returning via Basel/Belfort as we have 2 nights at la Bonnal also.

thanks,

Dave

Cookie, we used about 8 metres of the pipe as our nearest drain was that far away, as was the pipe, but that is mainly due to the van being 8 metres long and facing the wrong way from the drains so the pipes had to travel the length of the van as well as the gap if you see what I mean. We thought better safe than sorry and were glad. Sods law says you take loads you won't need it - it's your call.

Cycle routes are generally good. There are lots of separate roads for them but we don't use them so I'm not too familiar with the specifics. I suspect there is a route into Interlaken from just over the road from the site. Reception will be able to tell you better than I can. The centre is about a mile away from the site, certainly no less. There is a bus which goes from Neuhaus which is 200 yards up the road from the site at the next caravan site. Reception at Manor Farm will give you a free bus pass to use whilst you are there and you need the number 21 bus.

Cheers

Nick

Hi again.

Back from Interlaken yesterday (Sunday 3rd)

Where to start.

First- well done Nick. Great info.

Manor Farm park is well situated approximately 2 miles from Interlaken. The park was very busy when we were there but our pitch was a good size we had plenty of room for our caravan, 3m wide awning and our Sorento with room left over for us to have our sun loungers and table.

The drain was situated half way along the pitch. I needed about 2 mts of drain pipe.

Beware of the water supply as the pressure blew apart my hose fittings but was ok when turned down.

Pitches are marked with Red blobs on the verge.

The shop on site has fresh bread every morning and is generally well stocked. Supermarkets are the CO-OP and MIGROS which are easily found near Interlaken West station.

Next door to Manor Farm is Neuhaus which is a hotel with bar and restaurant and the boats stop here on the way up and down the lake to Thun. This is a very relaxing way to see the various villages on the lake side.

We did Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Brienze, Jungfraujoch, Gstadd, Bern and lots of places in between by using public transport. This actually works. We had Regional passes (270 CHF each) which gives 5 days free travel and 10 days at half price and we found it good value as you can choose the 5 free days whenever you like. Parking at Interlaken Ost Station costs max 5CHF for a day.

We do not have kids but felt that the families with kids stayed mainly by the lake in the day as they could swim or hire pedalos.

A word of warning - Switzerland is not the cheapest holiday destination.

All in all we felt that this was the best holiday we have ever had and we have been to all the usual detinations in Europe and been to New Zealand and Canada.

If there is anything more specific you need please let me know.

Regards
