Hi Kev
There's no mystery or cleverness, I ought to have posted some instructions on how to make simple links before so thanks for the reminder.
If we take a link that you posted in another topic yesterday:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Convoluted-Waste-Pipe-Hose-29-0mm-PER-METRE-/250793700612?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3a64782d04
Along the top of the comment box you will see a chain icon.
Copy the link that you have added to the comment box and when the text has been highlighted in blue you will see that the chain icons have been activated.
Left click on the left hand icon which shows the unbroken link and a dialogue box will appear (the other severed link icon is to unlink text and does not concern us)
Paste the copied url into the url box (top one)
In the Target box click the drop down and select Open Link in a New Window (It's important to do this)
In the third box marked Title add a word or words to show what the link will be (such as click here)
Ignore the bottom box marked Class.
Click on Insert
Your link will appear and it will seem no different to the original except that it will open in a separate Window.
To condense the link down to a word or phrase chosen by you:
After you link has reappeared click Disable Rich Text (bottom left of comment box)
You will find your link and the post written in HTML (hyper text markup language) and will look similar to what is shown below:
<p><a title="Click Here" href=" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Convoluted-Waste-Pipe-Hose-29-0mm-PER-METRE-/250793700612?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3a64782d04" target="_blank"> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Convoluted-Waste-Pipe-Hose-29-0mm-PER-METRE-/250793700612?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3a64782d04</a></p>
Don't be put off- the next bit is easy!
Ignore the <p> because these do not concern us. What is shown is actually your link written twice inside some brackets which are <a> at the start and </a> at the end which just show the start and the finish of the link.
Look back from the last </a> closing bracket and you will come to the word blank"> somewhere in the middle of your link
Leave the final </a> bracket, left click immediately to the left of it and delete the second part of the link until you come to blank">
You will be left with
<a title="Click Here" href=" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Caravan-Convoluted-Waste-Pipe-Hose-29-0mm-PER-METRE-/250793700612?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item3a64782d04" target="_blank"></a>
Insert whatever words you want to be seen on the forum between blank"> and </a> (click here or something similar)
Enable Rich text again, continue with your comments or click Save and your streamlined link should appear.
Job Done!

Tip: Sometimes it can be difficult to add a copied link to a line of forum text so paste it a line or so below before following my instructions.
When you have done, click Preview, wait a couple of seconds and adjust the position of your link to wherever you want it to be.
Copy the Practical Caravan url from your web browser and practice turning it into a link which is shown as Forum and opens in a separate Window
Please read the updated information on how to add a link using a much simpler method here
