Would appreciate some thoughts and feedback

Having just read practical caravan magazine article re Avondale Dart 630-6 it seem that a match between a mid range MPV and this outfit has been endorsed. Although the article does not mention whether the outfit had a spare wheel, stabiliser etc it does say that it was fully laden. Obviously to keep weight in caravan down, I would have to put locks, provisions etc in the car (I have a touran 2.0 litre TDI), but the extra weight in the car plus the fact that i usually put bikes on the roof will probably be a stability plus factor with regards increasing the weight of the car (not a legal argument I know, so would have to keep within legal weights).

Does anyone pull a 1450 mtplm van with a touran/Cmax or equivalent and have some feedback?

Hi D,

I would refer you to the paragraph 2 from the end, where it says the c-max is a bit of a lightweight.. and .. we would only recommend this ratio to experienced caravanners. I suspect that if you loaded the c-max as you intend, plus passengers the consumption would change and even a powerful 2 litre might struggle.

Hi, i presently tow a twin axle Swift Conqueror, Although its a 97 vintage, loaded sensibly, but certainly up at 1500kgs, with a touran Kerb weight of car with me in is around 1720 kg's, Would confirm that it is a adequate tow, will hold 6th gear on the motorway, and feels comfortable with regards to stability and handling.

I also manage around 32 mpg whilst towing,, and its only the 1.9 105 bhp model, i have stated before that i have towed with various different vehicles over the years, and this one is by far the best allrounder, and it will also be soon off again to the Costa Brava very shortly.

Regards Paul.

Hi,

we tow a caravan of this size/weight with a 140bhp 2.0tdci Ford S-max which is bigger than the Touran/c-max but the 2.0 engine is easily capable of the task that can maintain 60 mph up all but the steepest of hills.

Secondly, the solo stability of most cars is adversely affected when they are heavily laden, I doubt that it improves matters when towing.
