Grandad/Bazza/John/Wendy Andy/Ash of Swift

As you know l had the front window fitted 2 weeks ago by Discover Leisure Chorley, l reported that after towing back down the M61&M60 a distance of 20 odd miles their was know signs of the problem with the marks on the front window.

As l said we would be towing to Scarborough the following weekend for 1 weeks stay.

We towed the van 140 mile up the M62, M1, A1, and A64 never towing beyond 55MPH, we arrived after 4 hours due to a 1hours hold up where the A64 moves to single lane.

After setting the van up the first thing to check by both of us was the front window.

GrandadBazza/ John&Wendy imagine the setting glorious sunny afternoon a weeks holiday to look forward to with a good weather report, the van in tip top condition polished and serviced 5 days earlier.

You have guessed it the one thing that could spoil this happy scene would be if the marks on the new front window had reappeared, they have in exactly the same place has the other first window, dead centre in a group of about 3" scattered about mirrored on the outer pane (l am sure this is reflection as they super impose them selves on the other pane like before)

Andy Ash l checked the window before l left and all was o/k, the window was cleaned with Thetfords window cleaner and the van was washed with Autoglym shampoo.

What is my next course of action, have another window fitted, not convinced l will get one that won't have the same outcome, the option l prefer is that poyplastics come out and see the problem as l don't think taking the van 40 miles to Chorley for Discover to inspect won't have any answers.

Andy/ Ash, Swift will have my order number from Discover for this window surely polyplastics can tell the production run of this window.

Could you please give me options left open to me, as this problem needs to be resolved?

There is nothing worse than looking out through the window at nice views only to be spoiled by all these marks, Swift have put hundred thousands of these windows in other vans without any problems how come myself and the others on this forum keep getting the same problem after supposedly new modified windows were dispatched to us.

I urgently await your reply

Regards

NigelH

Ps Andy you have my email address and the vin number of my Van

Hi Nigel,

you must be so fed up with this by now! As you know we had ours changed, but won't be putting it to the test for another couple of weeks. I was really confident until I read your post :(

Are you sure that the new window was one of the MK3 design if the dealer fitted it? You can see that the newer unit protrudes slightly more than the two sides due to the gap being bigger.

Miriad actually sent a fitter out to us so maybe Andy will look into that for you if you ask?

Trevor Well well well, what's all that about, this is not a Discover or any Dealer problem but a Swift and Polyplastic problem, since when does a dealer produce windows, read the earlier posts before you comment.

l think others on this post would like some idea's on how to resolve issues not negative one's

The one thing l get from these posts is help, without this l would not have known that others had the same problem, others have had issues with cracks on rear and front panels, charger problems and countless more, all sorted by some one pointing them in the right direction on this forum, not one off statements that that don't give any help what so ever.

The only posts l am waiting for are from those that can help my problem, your post doesn't.

Hi Trevor

the comment I made about the dealer was not meant to imply that Discover had tried to pass off one of the old style windows knowingly.

Our own dealer had some awaiting fitment when I went down there after our last one failed, I knew about the new design coming out before they did, thanks to the forum!

Wendy did Polyplastics come out to you to refit the correct window and check the one you recieved, my window was ordered back in March and arrived late July, no fault to discover wasn't fitted to my van until September due to hospital appointments l had.

l am just wonfering if they despatch the wrong type although it does seem to have a bigger air gap between the panes.

Hi Nigel,

that does sound like there could have been a chance that the one fitted was an older type. The newer ones look more robust and don't flex when you touch the middle like the old ones did.

The fitter came to us at home and had the newest version and took the old window away for inspection. I believe the same chap travels all over the country and he is very good. Maybe Andy will see your post or you could try emailing him.

I am more hopeful now about my new window now as Baza hasn't reported any marks in his, which was fitted by Miriad about the same time as ours.

Good luck Nigel, hope you get sorted soon!

Thanks Andy the window does flex and l am sure enough when towing it cause's the same problem as before, what l can't understand why you have still got these faulty windows in your stock, but thanks for your quick response.

It would be more appropriate for the Guy that visited Wendy to come out and replace with the correct type, l am sure it would be more cost effective.

Wendy can't understand Trevor being negative about this problem, it's not the dealers fault all they did was change the window, Swift sent them the replacement which they presumed was the modified window.

Hope that Andy can sought it out has all other problems have been rectified and like you are well pleased with my AceFirestar, just need this issue sorting as it stares you in the face so to speak when you look through the front windows.

Regards

Andy,

I have sent you an e-mail that I originally sent to your Customer Services on 10th Sept but they have yet to reply regarding the replacement of the replacement of the replacement front window on our 2009 Jewel! Would you mind chasing CS / Myriad?

Thanks,

Neal H

Neal, l thought the manufacturer was Polyplastics, Wendy/John which company came out to you, Myriad or Polyplastics.

Andy l don't want to be sent another window if l have the same out come as the others, has the problem been identified and sorted.

Hi Nigel,

it was Miriad that arranged for their fitter to come to us, after Andy from Swift contacted them. I see he is looking into it for you so you should get it sorted soon.

I would think that you got one of the older style windows due to the dealer ordering before they found there was a problem with the second batch too... there was a delay in fitting so you were unlucky to have been caught out by bad timing.

We are waiting to see how the new design stands up to towing when we are away in a couple of weeks time, the new one definitely looks and feels stronger.

Don't let this problem take the enjoyment out of your new caravan as I'm sure you are pleased with it otherwise! We very nearly chose the Firestar too, it's a lovely looking caravan.

It is a pain having to make a long journey back to the dealer (especially if you work and have to do it at weekends) but at least they are trying to put things right. If you are happy with the service you receive I wouldn't worry about what anyone else says.

John/Wendy thanks for your reply, you are probably right, the window was ordered in March for some strange reason Swift sat on the order number from Discover so it was ordered in June and arrived in July, l had hospital appointments that kept changing through August so l arranged to have the window fitted at my vans first service on the 7th of September along with a few other niggles.

l seem to remember a post from GrandadBaza to your selves about the second batch of faulty windows, which concerned me at the time.

Discover have been quiet good with the service and the warranty claims so l have no complaints about Discover Leisure, in fact after the bad press they seem to get from others l can only praise the service l received, l even traded my butane bottles for Calor lite for just the price of the gas which they duly fitted for me at no extra cost, apart from the new regulator which l was aware l had to buy.

We are both happy with the Firestar we looked at the Abbey and the Challenger but it came down to her in doors that preferred the colour Scheme of the Ace.

The other factor was we had the Ace Brightstar before which we loved sorry to see it go but the draw of not making beds at night was too much to resist.

We are enjoying the new van and have not let the niggles get to us but the centre window is problem as every time you sit down its their in your face which can get you annoyed but talking to people on this forum helps in that you know something will be done and l am sure Andy or Ash will sort things out for us.

Once again thank you for your support and GrandadBazza to.

We had a centre front window replaced at the end of August and, touch wood, no problem as yet following a 220 mile round trip from Devon to the New Forest and back last week. On giving the caravan front a wash to get rid of the usual flies etc I noticed that in the top right hand corner of the window the same logo and model no. etc appears identical but with the no. 0906 whereas all the other windows have 0710. Is this the month of manufacture i.e. June 2009 and October 2007 which would tie in with the caravan's age - February 2008 model?

Hi Nigel,

never mind about the caravan... have you got yourself sorted out after all those hospital appointments?

We bought the Challenger 540 as the colouring of the interior suited us better although there wasn't much difference. The fixed bed is absolute luxury lol!

Hi Chris,

I've been trying to find a previous post that explained the date stamps on the windows but I think you have worked it out.

Glad to hear the replacement has stood the test and it gives us much more confidence that the problem has been solved at last. Keeping our fingers crossed for our trip down to the West country, soon find out if our replacement window is up to it!

Hi Nigel,

glad everything is alright now for you!

I think the company you are looking for could be Jonic? Mind you if you're wife is handy wih a sewing machine it's fairly easy to alter an ordinary fitted sheet (which is less expensive).

Hi all

reading your posts, I have a sterling europa 650 which we purchased back in Feb 09 which seams to have the same problems with the centre window ie marks on both pains starting in the centre and moving out like a starfish.

My question is as i live 45 miles away from my dealer. do I have to take the van back to them or would swift look into matters for me?

The problem with taking the van to the dealer is I work all week so can only take it on a saturday but would have to leave it all week and re collect the following weekend almost 200 miles round trip.

any help or advice would be greatfull

regards John

Wendy thanks for the information, and no wife not good with sewing machine but l think she is also thinking of a of matching sheets pillow cases and quilt, she must have come into money she has not told me about.

Also Andy has said he will be back to me today to let me know how they intend to proceed with the window, l hope he will ask Myriad to come out and fit the correct one as it seems they now have changed the spec of the window.
