Hi, have noticed you put that you usually go to the south of france, we are looking to go down there next year and was wondering if you could recommend any good sites preferable on the or right next to the beach. Thank you

There are many good sites right alongside the beach. The CC Advance Booking Brochure lists several and the Yelloh group of holiday camps lso have many very well equiped sites. However, you need to take care on your dates. From the middle of July the sites tend to fill en masse with the Dutch and the Belgians and from the end of July to around the 19th/20th August the French are also 'en vacances'. This means all the beach sites are 'chokka' during this time and if you like that then no problem, but if you prefer a quieter life then probably try other dates in the year.

A good source of info is the Anton Rogers guide to France, it lists more sites with detailed descriptions rather than the basic ones shown by the CC book.

One site which is highly recommended (at least by us) is Le Boucanet between Grau du Roi and La Grande Motte. Directly on the beach (only a line of boulders between you and the Med), good pool, good facilities, walk into town, and flamingoes flying overhead at dusk and dawn - fabulous. This is the south of France - but if you mean the Riviera then look elsewhere!!!

I also like Boucanet, you just have to be careful on what pitche you select as some are very sandy. This year we stayed at Les Serignan Plage which is also a good campsite but there is not much in the area immediately outside the campsite if you don't want to drive.

If you have a look at my website www.caravantravels.co.uk I have quite a bit of information of Med campsites.

Please state what time of the year you stayed. The difference of just one week can mean the difference between peace and mayhem.

This year we stayed at Le Boucanet the last week in May - and it was idyllic. Previously we've stayed in May/June, and in early September - both weeks we are able to use Camping Cheques which brings the cost down to

it really depends on certain things as to which site you are looking for, but i do agree with Scotch Lad that the alan rogers web site is good.

the caravan club is also getting their prices in for next year soon, but for the first time we went, we went on a Haven site ( siblu now) not every persons cup of tea but with 3 kids to keep amused it was great for them and it was 10 minutes walk to the beach, and with it being our first time and forgetting everything my French teacher taught me at school it was easier for us as everyone on site spoke english (dont believe some people when they say most people speak english in France, we have stopped on some sites and no one spoke a word and doing sign langauge is harder than you think) but i do recommend Cap d'Agde, the surrunding area is beautiful, a smaller version of St Tropez and you dont have to remortage your house to eat out

I have just looked on Le Boucanet web site and it looks really good but are the pitches on top of each other (especially the seafront ones)? it looks quite tight for a caravan 23ft and awning
There's actually plenty of room - but you might need to ask the tractorised unit to push you further onto the pitch. The problem is that the beachside pitches are very sandy - so lots of people pitch up tight to the road, so that the car wheels are on hard surface when towing off. If you can swallow your pride and ask for help (or have a motor mover, which works amazingly well on sand) then the beachside pitches are plenty long-enough for your unit.

We've seen lots of people trying to get their van off - and refusing the offer of help from the staff - we're not so proud, and managed to get our bed (fixed) almost on the beach!!!
