Hi Dave

I have just noticed in your posting on another thread, your mention of going to Spain in the winter. I would like to pick your brains on this subject with regard to when you go, how long for, which area or sites etc. etc. etc. etc.! Hope you don't mind this request.

P.s. We DID see the dolphins at Rosemarkie and what a lovely memory of the area in general.

Hi Chris.

Glad you enjoyed Rosemarkie, the dolphins are amazing aren't they.

Re Spain: I'm sorry but I don't have much helpful info as this will be our first time.

However,we plan to set off mid September and cross to Calais probably by the Eurotunnel thing. Our first stop will be close to Albert so that we can have a day or two around the Somme - my great-uncle is buried in the British Cemetery at Pozieres.

From there we hope to cover 250 to 300 miles per day through France, across the Pyranees and down past Madrid to Puerto de Mazarron on the Murcia coast, approx 100miles south of Alicante.

Once we've found a site that we like, and there are a few to choose from, we'll probably stay there until next March/April.

Have you any plans on over-wintering?

Dave

ps: Where else did you get to in Scotland?

Hi Dave

We originally were booked to have a week at Bunree, then a week at Rosemarkie. We stopped overnight at Loch Lomond on the way up and within just hitching up in the morning Rob was bitten 35 times! We decided that a week of that would drive us mad and so we cancelled that week. As a result we stayed at Rosemarkie longer, but it turned out to be very relaxing as we mainly walked to the village, Chanonry point, the Bistro and the Fairy Glen and spent a lot of time sitting, legs up, watching the sea and the boats from the 'van. (This is making me want to go again!)

We stayed at Berwick for two nights on the way home and visited Culloden Moor where the last battle was fought, and it had a definite 'feel' to it.

As regards Spain, it is something which appeals, but to me more than Rob. I suppose it is all new as we have never been to Spain even with a package holiday, so it is completely unknown. I think also the stumbling block is the family - we have a small granddaughter and we would miss them, but I think even for a month it would be a break from gloomy winters.

I think we have to find out more about the practicalities, such as sites open, the need for booking etc. We did hear of one motorhomer at Rosemarkie, who did Spain and Portugal in January and February, then drove home via Italy. They did mention a site they liked in Mazarron so I have done some tentative research on the Internet, but have not got very far as yet.

I have just received the C & CC club Winter Sunshine book with sites in and this seems quite helpful (quite a change for the C&CC Club) - whoops, slap wrists!

Would love to hear of any developments you should make on this subject.

Regards

Chris

Hi Chris.

As we make progress with our plans we'll keep you and Rob up to date.

One point on Mazarron; the Los Torres site have emailed me with their rates for long term. They are: 16-45 nights = 12euros/night,

46-80 nights = 11euros/night. This is for car,van,awning,2adults,1dog,fully serviced pitch 70sq.mts.

It gives some idea of what's available. If we get a better quote I'll let you know.

Can't get Rosemarkie out of my mind now!

Regards,Dave

Thanks Dave for those rates, at least that gives me some idea of costs. Rosemarkie has had that affect on us and it is definitely one place we shall return to sometime in the future, but to the private site the other side of the Point.

Forgot to ask if this is a part of Spain you have been to or have been recommended to. As I said we have never been but we would prefer somewhere greener and not too built up if possible.
