I for one did not know that moderators can and do use other user names on this forum. Liz
That has never been a secret. When Mods 2 and 3 were publicly recruited on the forum there was much humerous debate trying to guess who they were.

In that case I believe Steve posted under his user name, then as Moderator he deleted the post, why did he not do that in the first place state he was a moderator and was deleting the topic.

Talk about going round the block. nevermind got there eventually. Liz

I tried to correct posts last night that had personal attacks in them and inappropriate comments but was unable to keep the thread so that it still read correctly. The whole topic was getting very heated and at one point I was on the admin site hitting refresh (a search every time) to catch replies and delete them. Many of the bad post where there for a few seconds only and I was running out of time. We do not have the option to close a thread or I could have just done that.

Sometimes, the only way to stop the kind of posts that where appearing is to stop the thread. The Admin tool only allows one way to do that and its a delete.

Can I also note that non of your post where past the mark and the original post of the thread was OK. But some of the fast acting last posts where very personal and NOT acceptable.

Maybe when we get a new forum tool, we will have the option to lock a thread. Until then, I am afraid its editing or deleting

Steve
Ahhhh thanks Steve, that's what I was trying to get at, it was obviously postings that I never saw that were getting personal :O)

VIP I have to disagree

I volunteer my time to moderate these forums and it has always been a known fact that all the mods are both users and moderators. No moderator of the forum is an employee.

Because I am a user I still have the right to post in the threads. We do not moderate threads we are involved in and it has been know for a moderator to delete or edit another mods postings.

There are no underhand dealings or any personal agenda's. We are moderators to keep the posts in order that is all. A Moderator has the option of keeping their identity hidden. That is their choice but it is a common fact that the mods are users and this has never been hidden in any way. In fact, when mod 2 was selected, a request for users to take the post was posted here.
I'll vouch for that.

Steve - Mod3 I knew you would disagree, although that does not answer what I was getting at, that being, what is wrong with entering into a debate under your moderator name? I appreciate that moderators are not employees of the site owners, and I would wager that not many of the other members would know that moderators can enter topics under different user names.

I am not trying to be clever here, but the air needs clearing on this situation, with rules etc. being posted as a "Sticky" for all to see IMHO
What Steve says is true VIP. His Moddyship was the one and only Moderator but he/she needed time off so it was announced in this forum that anyone interested in becoming a Moderator should email their interest.

Liz, does it really matter if Steve posts under whatever nic? We are losing touch of the issue I intended, that is finding out what was posted that the whole thread needed deleting and now I believe Steve has answered that.

What Steve said about the Moderators also posting under their regular nics has been known to those who have been using the forum for a long time. I didn't know Steve was Mod 3 until now but it doesn't matter because to my knowledge he's never abused his position.

With regards to how many knew or not about the Mods also being posters is totally irrelevant because if people have joined since Mod 2 & 3 posts were created they are hardly likely to know. It's hardly a big issue that when joining the forum it needs to be mentioned in the forum etiquette.

People at the site where I'm a Moderator know who I am whether I use my + token or player nic. Friends who go beyond whats acceptable get gagged or booted like anyone else, I treat all the same and I get more respect from people who don't know me as well as those who I consider as long time online friends. One or two of my colleagues have their favourites and let them get away with things while gagging others for the same offence but nobody can accuse me of that.

Personally I can't see anything wrong in the Moderators on here posting in the different threads and joining the debate, if I'm moderating a game room I chat and joke with all the other players. It just proves you're human and not a bot to the other members.

Lord B. I am typing this and trying to be very careful in my phrasing - The gist of the problem was a poem presented having a go at immegrants entering this country and abusing our social security system. It then all went pear shape on the issue of race relations. I will not go further or name individuals as there was enough flak last night which I thought was very personal and hurtful. The rest I will leave to others if they so wish to enlarge on the topic.

Ahhhhhhhhh it's all making sense now. That was the last posting I saw so as you say it must have kicked off from there. Like you Colin, I too think it's unfair to mention the guilty party but I think a pennance of sitting in the corner of the classroom of Truro Comprehensive School writing 100 lines "I must not upset people on the PC forum" should suffice.

Hehheh! sorry Liz, you can smack me if we ever meet ;O)

Lord B. I think you are being very unfair on Liz in accusing her as the guilty party. We were all at fault in one way or another. I therefore think that you should make a genuine apology to Liz and not a light hearted rebuff. It is the result of posting making accusations that cause the hurt and some people are more sensative than others. In my case I am often referred to as Rhino as I appear so thick skinned - however I do often feel hurt by others both on and off this forum. If you recall it was for this reason that I did not make a posting for some time last year. The friendly banter which I often enter into with you and others is meant in a humourous way and hopefully accepted in the manner it is given, however I have upset some contributers to this forum and apologised for my ways.

OK I apologise for you posting that naughty poem Liz. With reference to your Rhino nic Colin, I heard it was because of your large upturned hooter ;O)

⇦ waits now to be lambasted by members with large hooters ... hehheh!

Lord B. in your previous posting you did mention that you agreed in not naming names, then you point the finger, agreed not directly, at Liz. It is for this I have suggested that you apologise and not for the fact of Liz actually initially posted what she did. You are not responsible for Liz's actions but are responsible for your accusations against her and it is for this I suggested you apologise.

As far as my big hooter it is very useful for sniffing out trouble when it erupts. Also in south Wales it is said that the size of a man's personal equipment can be gauged by the size of his nose - who needs Viagra eh what what.

I will unreservedly apologise for my statement after you have conducted a poll on how many members know that moderators can and do use other user names on this forum.
Most of the older (?)members know that the mods can post under their own names, VIP. It was something that was highlighted a long time ago. Due to the fact that it has never caused a problem before, it hasn't been mentioned since. In fact, now that you and the more recent members know, it will be lost in time again, until someone else brings the subject up.

I can only reiterate what Steve has said, the moderation of this forum is one of the best around. They give you enough rope until it looks like you will hang yourself, then pull you back from the brink.

Besides, Steve is paying me a tenner for this sermon.....
