Ferries.

I intend to go to Brittany next year. Can anyone advise me whether it is better( and cheaper) to go via Calais and drive the 300+ miles to get there or go by one of the ferries that operate from Plymouth or portsmouth. I have no idea as to the comparative cost. Nigel.
 
Nigel, we live in Devon and this year we drove to dover and crossed. couple of reasons

1/ we wanted to take in some more areas of france on the way to Brittany

2/ we wanted to take our dog and leaving him in the car for 5/7 hours crossing (depending on crossing ) was not an option for us.

For an extra 30mins driving, I'd suggest Dover-Dunkirk, via Norfolk lines. Shorter sea journey, better for the dog, and probably
