Hi Jo-Anne,
As others have said for shopping Asda town centre,Tesco's at the
Sepentine Centre.Its very big and lots of other stores,lots of
parking and its about 3miles drive.Theres a Sainsbury's a few
more miles further on.I would say if theres few caravans in your
group have a look on the right side site,its mainly grass and
you can pitch nose to tail together.
I'm at Ferry Meadows end of May,Lowestoft CC at Easter and
Tremble Valley CC mid April(any Comments)I allways wanted to
visit the Eden Project.May Bank Holiday weekend Im at Woodbridge,Suffolk.
Hope you have some good trips planned

Hi,
My First post but given Ferry Meadows is a mile from my house I thought I would post.
What's in the park, it's acres of land with a couple of lakes, really pretty, good walking, plenty of ducks and geese to feed. I went two weeks ago and the only thing open was the water sports cafe, the minature train was not running yet, plenty of play grounds but not much to actually do except walk, fly a kite, ride a bike.
Good places to eat close by: The Grannary at the entrace to Nene Park, so walking distance from the Caravan park (5 mins). They do steaks and Grills and a nice bar for a drink. Further along towards town (still walking distance but about 30 minute Walk is Gordon Arms, cheap and cheerful pub food. 5 minutes further and you have Cross Keys has okay food. Live music at weekends, downside (for me) is the football crowd at weekends so it can be loud.
There is a river path that will take you from Ferry meadows into town in about 40 minutes but it is a lovely walk by the river straight into town by Asda. This is the same path which will take you to the Nene Valley Railway (where James Bond was filmed). The Catherdral is lovely but nothing esle to do or worth looking at in town I'm afraid, it's chavtastic here ;-).
If you are into tains (or have a Thomas the tank engine fan) a trip to the main station is ace as they have lots of trains and Thomas the Tank Engine and you can get a return ticket from the station near the park. It's a nice ride even if you are not that into trains.
Wanford is a lovely Village to wander round and that's about 8 miles (The Haycock has a great bar and lovely food) but it is tiny. Stamford is worth a vist it has lovely architecture (Spelling is poor!) and it has lots of nice little shops to browse round (the George has lovely food but pricey) and it's a great place to while away an day.
If you have kids sacrewell farm is good (about 6 miles), they can feed the sheep, goats, chickens and play in the hay stacks.
Shopping, asda is the closest supermarket but I would give that a miss. Tesco at Serpentine green is your best bet for a big shop, if not a big shop then Budgeons on Nene vally park just off the main road from the site about 1.5 miles.

ah sue thats great hun thanks for that. if theres anymore that will help us then feel free to add on. were only there 4 nights so i dont wanna do a huge shop.

Frank ive always fancied treamble valley. when i was last down in cornwall craig and i tried to find it for a nosey without the cc handbook and just using the sat nav which i know tells you not to but we still didnt find it lol.
you will have to let me know about the other sites.

The best takeaway is called Aroma and it does the best canntonese chicken in the world. They don't deliver you have to collect but it's a couple of shops away from Budgeons so you can combine it with a shop and it's two minutes away in the car. Aroma Valley Park Centre, Peterborough, 01733 558488
The best indian is Maharanis and they do deliver, 01733 561111
I should have said there is also a golf course and pitch and put just off the site, about a 5 minute walk.

well i went. nice site but not enough for kids to do. play area in west side rubbish. nice walks on park but long walks to play areas for my little one. dog poo on site and a wandering dog that goes into awnings. loose dogs aswell that people let out at night for the last wee and poo and do not watch them not good. would i go again i dont think so.

yes it is a cc site but non members are allowed in. one night the van with the dogs that they let out unsupervised lost a dog about 11.30 so they were shouting his name aswell.
it just puts you off going again.

The dog thing was hardly the CC fault , more so the selfish person near you. Did you report them to the Wardens?
Generally I've never felt the CC have a prime responsibility for setting up children's play areas. Those I have seen in my travels better or exceed those I had as a kid.
The local "wreck" had two swings, a slide and a roundabout.I and my brother were contented for hours.
What do you think a CC playground should have??

no didnt report them im told old for confrentations now they would have known it was us.
the cc always put play area with stuff for more suited for the older ones like over 8, its always slippy and the kids need long legs to get up aswell. maybe a little play house or a see saw would be a good idea.

Jo-Anne, I understand your annoyances at CC members (and non members) who flaut the rules, but hopefully if you go back, you will have different neighbours.
Both times we have been, we have been on the grass pitches side of the road (the east from memory), not the same side as the office and while busy, our just 6 year old (at the time of first visit, she is nearly 8 now) was able to use the park. If you were over the other side, the play area is much smaller.

Good point, both times we have been have either been Easter or after Easter, we didn't realise the grass side was closed early in the year (unsurprising though!!)
The railway will always appear expensive (especially at full price), but considering the maintenance involved, it isn't too bad.
