Travelling from Dover to Calais then back from Caen to Portsmouth.

Anyone any tips for cheapest place to book?

I am a member of the caravan and Motorhome club and I believe they offer a discount.

My other question - does anyone have any tips of a place to stopover between Calais and the Dordogne? We’re staying at this place .

Thanks in advance!

We used to stop in Dourdan at Camping le petit pres when travelling from Dunkerque/Calais. Very convenient for autoroute, local shops and eateries in walking distance.

On the return leg, assuming that is Dordogne to Caen port [Ouistreham], we used the ex municipal in Loches.
It is placed at about half the duration of the overall drive.

If that's still operating its well placed for the evening stroll into the "city" centre, still of some medieval charm.
It used to be on the ACSI card discount scheme.

Ok cancel that. We’ve now done a little more planning and have decided to get the overnight ferry to Caen and back.

So any pointers on where we can find a discount code for Brittany ferries would be appreciated if there are any? I see they have an offer on flexi tickets at the moment which is good.

Oh and we’re travelling mid July.

Thanks,
Suzie

Oh that’s good to hear! It’s our first trip to France with the caravan so feeling a bit apprehensive but this site does seem to get excellent reviews so 🤞🤞

There are no discounts available these days, other than membership of Brittany Ferries Club Voyage membership (which for new applicants is pretty minimal)
The old BF Friends and family discount ceased back in November

Ferry discounts available on DFDS if you do a phone booking for over 60's and I think up to the age of 30. Newhaven to Dieppe also cheapest anyway. Paying £236 this year for car and 7.3m caravan return April to June.
Campsites cheapest Via ASCI discount card which is about 20 euros a year. Even the sites in the Caravan and Camping club tend to be cheaper. Expect about 19 euros a night up to 25 for sites that have everything we do not want! We travel and book as we go along no problem out of the main summer season

CMHC used o do excellent ferry discounts as long as it was part of a package with their recommended French camp sites.

Years since we did this, but worth looking to see if they still do this.

We book our French sites direct with the site, often they offer early boking discounts , and some wiil offer 7 nights for 6 as well. Last year we paid our deposit direct to the site and balance was payable on arrival, all in all it worked out a lot less expensive than booking through the club or site company in UK, full service choice of pitch on site less than 20 euros a night for 2 adults car caravan and awning in July

We book Brittany Ferries direct, Portsmouth to St Malo out, same back or if not sailing on the day we need to come back Caen
