Hi
We had the non zip awning in the beginning and thought it was great. We'd arrive in temperatures of 90 degrees and it would take a couple of minutes to get the main part of the awning up (providing cover so the items that go in the awning can be put there). For a couple of summers we had some heavy rain showers with wind and the rain did get in through the gaps (because the sides are not fully attached). We thought, no problem we'll just move the items in the awning into the middle.
When the zip version came out, that was the answer to all our problems, same benefits as the original version but without the disadvantages. This will be our third year with the zip version and I wouldn't change it.
You have to weigh up whether you don't mind spending lots of time on your awning (I think when a full awning is put up correctly it looks the business) or whether you need a functional easy convenient one.
I recommend the zip version, but you need to think what your needs are.
