We are thinking of buying a Fiamma Awning, is it worth having one with the zip on , to put sides on at a later date, could we make our own sides and zip them onto their zips (whats a YKK zip) Is it worth having one at all? any comments would be a great help.

cheers Graham

If you intend to buy new, you should buy the Zip model complete, as getting the privacy room afterwards will be difficult and/or expensive. The non-Zip model can be fitted with the "clip system" as used on F45 wind out awnings and is readily available as a retro-fit.

We have a 2004 Zip model and are very pleased with it. (2005 has legs to go down the 'van wall) The canopy can be rolled out in a couple of minutes and it only takes a frther 15-20 minutes for the front and sides. A big plus is that it can be put away wet.

We used it in some fairly strong winds last weekend (E Yorks coast) but we do use securing plates and guys on the legs.

Definately a recommended piece of kit.

Have a look on e-Bay as they do come up from time to time. Try to obtain the right size to ensure that the side walls are not coming down on a window. In addition, put some clear tape (freezer tape from Wilko) on the caravan wall where the awning pole will rest to prevent any scuffing of the paint.

Hi

We had the non zip awning in the beginning and thought it was great. We'd arrive in temperatures of 90 degrees and it would take a couple of minutes to get the main part of the awning up (providing cover so the items that go in the awning can be put there). For a couple of summers we had some heavy rain showers with wind and the rain did get in through the gaps (because the sides are not fully attached). We thought, no problem we'll just move the items in the awning into the middle.

When the zip version came out, that was the answer to all our problems, same benefits as the original version but without the disadvantages. This will be our third year with the zip version and I wouldn't change it.

You have to weigh up whether you don't mind spending lots of time on your awning (I think when a full awning is put up correctly it looks the business) or whether you need a functional easy convenient one.

I recommend the zip version, but you need to think what your needs are.

First we had the caravanstore with the add on sides and now we have the 4.4m zip. they are brilliant for ease of putting up but tend to dent the sides of the caravan where the poles lean against the van so be very carefull in windy conditions.

We have 2006 and really love it as it is so quick. Recommend buying all together (you get everything including pegs etc.)as it will work out more expensive to buy the side zips later.
