Well the new van has arrived and very happy with it too ! It's come from the dealer with an awning, however this is where the "FUN" starts as the awning is way too big for the van. It measures like a 1039 cm whereas the van is specd for a 968cm so looks like they chucked in the first awning they came to and thought "that'll do" but then only put enough poles in to maybe erect a small childs pup tent. Now here's the rub folks, the awning is a really nice Isabella commodore dawn in fantastic condition but the van has a hand book for a Dorema awning so what to do next. Honest me says take it all back and ask for the Dorema but bad me says go and try get the right poles off them, keep the lovely Isabella and have it shortened to fit !!

Answers on a post card please. peter (owdun)

If an awning is part of the deal then you should expect it to fit and have the correct selection of poles. Not sure how successful a reduction would be as it is quite a big job taking it to bits, taking 2 panels out of the roof and refitting the awning cord etc and poles do not come cheap. I know what my course of action would be!

Take it back and discuss it with them. Isabella are the best, but we’ve had Dorema awnings and even used all year they have been very good. But as said above shortening it that much isn’t really a good idea if it’s feasible. Another option that future proofs you if you change the van is a porch/midi awning of around 430 which would give a good living space and move onto the next van. Some will accept side annexes as extra sleeping accommodation or shed-like extra storage.

Although the isabella is the better awning it is no good with being too large and insufficient poles. Ask them for the Dorema awning with all the poles.

Update. I now have all the correct poles for the Isabella so I'll give some thought whether to have the awning shortened to fit my van (cost circa £400) by specialist or sell it on as is and buy an air awning instead.

any thoughts ?? peter

I'd sell the Isabella and buy another Isabella, we have the magnum porch awning with carbon-x poles, it's 14 years old and still looks like new. I have absolutely no desire to buy an air awning , they are so heavy to try and pull through the awning rail. We can erect the magnum in 20-30 mins , I don't think air awnings are much quicker , it's the pegging out that takes the time .

Maybe you could part exchange for something the right size?

I would look to try and sell the full awning. Personally my wife and myself do not like full awnings, they seem such a hassle to put up and take down , but, if your going away for two or three weeks at a time maybe it is worth it. I prefer a poled porch awning or a smaller air porch awning.
