Finally bought a van

So after a few viewings & too many hours on youtube, we bought a 2013 Lunar Lexon 530, its now on our storage pitch (1st reverse in 15yrs lol). now it's time to look for a few weekends away in our area before the end of the year & start planning trips for next year, what's everyone's thoughts on club sites, pro's & cons ?

Club sites have become very expensive - there's still excellent value and cracking locations among the CL/CS 5-van sites - but you do need to read the description to see what you get.

We prefer CL’s. Smaller, often friendlier, and all very different. However. You may be better starting with club sites with advice on hand.

Cheers, when we had last van, bout 15yrs ago we were members of the ccc & found as infrequent novices, we were looked down on as I took 5-10 tries to get reversed onto pitch in our old 2nd hand van, then struggling to put up awning, I have never understood anyone having experience & not passing it on.

Personally we like club sites BUT they’re certainly escalating in cost.

We use to prefer CL's sites but with a fully serviced pitch we also like Adult parks as well with a pub nearby with great food .

Club sites are too expensive. We go for CLs and private sites. Lots of lovely ones around with FSPs for under£30 a night.

.....going to Brighton CAMC site in November for 5 days using their one night free offer.....works out at £21.50/ day. Their sites suit winter caravanning.....heated amenities, hardstanding and unmetered electricity etc.
I admit normally too expensive in the so called caravan season.

Another vote for CLs and small private sites, it really depends on what you want from a site though. If your looking for peace and quiet and are willing to sacrifice amenities (club house, shop, entertainment etc) CLs are the way to go. Some have showers and toilets, many don't, some have WiFi, others don't. Every one I've stayed at has had loads of space between pitches and most have had great views.

What area are you in? I'm sure someone on here will be able to recommend a site or two.

I really miss Butteries and Mealy puddings.

Nairn, Speyside have lovely club sites, i use them every year and not to far from you.

I don't think you "were looked down on". . We are all people watchers. . Life's a learning curve. . Caravanning is to be embraced and enjoyed. . Some 'vanners are pitched up and having a beer before I've decided where I want to pitch. . . It's not a competition. . Nice and easy and in your own time. .

Two things could alleviate your concern. Fit a mover to the caravan as no one’s the slightest bit interested in seeing a caravan being moved by the motors. The other could be to try an air awning. No poles to mix up. 😂😂😂

poles dont get mixed up if you colour code them with insulating tape e.g. red,blue, green, yellow, back and white . Simples!

Maybe "looked down on" was a little harsh & maybe just my OCD & paranoia, but one site I visited seemed to have a lot of Henry's & Henrieta's (sorry to anyone who matches these names) but a lot of them seemed to feel they were a class above others lol.

Definitely taken light heartedly by me, I very seldom do serious (sometimes gets me in trouble" however my motto is "here for a good time- not a long time) that 64yo guy dancing on table is me lol

MMs were must our property but I use them more often than not when camping. Easy to find level ground or ramp if thats not option. Sometimes just to switch sites or rotate 180 for views.

Club sites are too expensive IMO, and fine if you want to stay on a featureless gravel car park.
We much prefer CL's but we have no requirement for shower blocks or fully serviced pitches

I'm in kincorth for last 40yrs, but dragged up on Cummings park crescent
