I find it very frustrating that I cannot get accurate information regarding a suitable tow car.

I have a Sterling Europa 620 with a maximum weight of 1600kgs.

Ideally, I would like an estate car as opposed to a 4 x 4.

Can anyone help me find a car please?
 
The choice is relatively large so it would help if you could narrow it down a bit, perhaps by make. Most of the large car manufacturers will have something to fit your bill.

If you want to email David Motton ( motty@practicalcaravan.com ) he knows more about towcars than anyone else. If you give him an idea of budget and also any makes or models you particularly like, he will draw up a list for you.

Based on the weights you are talking about though, you are likely to be looking at Volvo V70, Mercedes E-Class and other pricier estate models. One alternative which is a bit more sensibly priced however is the Skoda Superb, which has the weight, power and body control needed to be a great towcar, without the top line price tag.

Hi Denis

This is the first time I've posted anything on a forum-came on here for a bit of caravan help,saw your post and thought I would have been glad of similar advice when I was changing cars.

as Lutz says the choice is quite wide but I thought I'd give you a personal recommendation.

I have a Nissan X-Trail (2005 T-Spec 2.2 litre diesel) which I bought specifically as a tow car.

I haven't got the time at the moment to quote figures and statistics (all of which I thoroully researched prior to buying)

However, I will say the it does do exactly what it says on the tin. In short, aswell as being extremely economical on its own (genuine 45 mpg+) towing my caravan (Geist LV555 Xclusiv)doesn't make an enourmous difference (35mpg+). It tows this caravan with absolute ease, no problems whatsoever.

The car has all the bells and whistles as standard-leather/heated/electric seats, built-in sat nav, 6 speed gearbox, tons of room inside (especially withe seats down-which incidently lie completely flat and create a hard loading surface), just small enough to serve as an ordinary estate car (overhead car park barriers etc.)it has a max towing weight of 2000KG (2 tonnes). I could go on, suffice to say I am very happy with it, and I'm not clueless about motors having had all the top marques for years.

Just to add, you don't have to pay through the nose for parts either. I had quotes (1) to replace intercooler (
