Fire extinguishers

While cleaning out the van at the weekend I checked the use by date on the fire extinguisher and found its use by date is the end of this year..... so ok I need to replace it then I thought so what do I do with the old one do they part exchange do I have to take it to my nearest fire station i carn't take it to my local tip so what do I do with it ....... any ideas please
 
I took one to the local tip but they wouldn't take it as it hadn't been discharged. I discharged it into a bin bag at home (a bit messy but not too bad) and took it back next time I visited the tip.

Alternatively, leave it out and your local scrap metal collectors will probably take it.
