Received an email and text message from our storage site this afternoon. The heathland at the back of the site was on fire and although under control they wanted us to go and take the wheel clamp off the van so they could move it if necessary. Checked with CC insurance that this would be OK and they said it was fine. Having had our van stolen last year the last thing we need is for this one to go on fire!

In 6 years we have never used wheel locks for this reason, only hitch locks. If on a site and a caravan near you goes up in flames you can drag or push your van off even with a hitch lock if you can't get it off quickly. Site warden will do this to make a fire break if needed, if you are not at the site and your caravan has a wheel lock they cant move it. With hitch lock only it can be dragged with a bit of rope around towbar and tied through A frame.

Unfortunately after all our precautions our van was destroyed in a storage compound fire last year that broke in early hours.
