Hi there

As I promised keep you up dated on the first service of my Bailey Caravan which I purchased from Michael Jordon caravans.

To start I recieved a reminder in the post a few days before the van was due to go in for its service on Saturday 9th August. Arrived at M Jordin 9.10am Saturday got into the line of other vans waiting to go in. Got to my turn pulled into area where Paul

who was going to do my vans condition report. With the report filled out and my comments noted we have left the caravan with them. I hope to pick up on Wednesday. So far so good will keep you up dated this Wednesday on cost and if thay do the job correctly.

Why do they need it so long Stephen?

When I took ours to Salop Caravans we booked in at 8am on Friday and had it back by about 12.

Since we found a mobile engineer who could do services and warranty work at our home we've used him, quite a bit cheaper due to less overheads.

Stephen,

Re - "if thay do the job correctly." Don't mean to be rude but how will you know if they've done the job properly? Are you planning on taking the wheels off to check if the brakes have been adjusted or similar?

I think you have either got to trust that whoever you've chosen to do the service will do it correctly or else find some one else who you will trust.

Hi Stephen

Ok they may have missed one nipple , if indeed that nipple is a service item on the first service??

More importantly they have given you a damp free test guarantee which, God forbid you need in the future, will prove you have complied with Bailey's conditions.. I assume yours is a single axle.

Hello Stephen , I think more to the point , if they have missed one grease nipple then what else have they missed ? Did they adjust things right , did they check all said components , did they renew all necessary service items ? etc etc etc . Especially at 211 notes I think I would be a little dubious as you certainly sound . Unfortunately you never know how good services are done until you get the van back , but if the engineer comes to your home at least you can talk things through with him without pestering him , plus maybe learn a little something as you go . Personnally I think

I was told when having my Bailey serviced that they have colour coded paint markings on the hub nuts for the brakes. I believe the last year was a white marking and this year should be a red marking - it is one way of telling if the brakes have been attended to and a reputable service engineer will be able to tell straight away if a service has been missed or shoddy work carried out on a service.

Hi Stephen

We live in West Sussex and last year we used a mobile engineer called Jimmy who runs 3M's Caravan Care. He is based in Cosham and covers Hampshire and West Sussex. We were new to caravanning and he was happy for us to watch him do the service and we learnt a great fron him. We are not sure if Jimmy is N.C.C registed. His website is www.3mscaravancare.co.uk
