First time caravan owner and single dad

Hi Everyone,

First time van owner, well not totally new. My dad gave me his old crumbling swift van from the 90's before he died. It lasted 2 years and rotted away. That was 8 years ago.

Life changed, amicable marriage split happened a few years ago and Im now a single dad with a 14yr old daughter with me half the week who is fortunately mad into camping and caravaning

So decided to buy us a 2nd hand van, likely around 10 yrs old and going looking at the dealers this weekend with a shortlist in hand.

Have joined the CCC and made contact with a DA to ideally get along to some meets to try and learn what im doing. The lack of EHU scares me a bit though haha.

Aiming for early April as virgin voyage to a local site!

Welcome the forum. A 14 year old that agrees to go Caravanning. You are indeed blessed. 😀
Both of you enjoy it and keep posting
Mel

Thank you.

Yes my 14yr old (nearly 15) loves camping, even makes me set up a tent in the garden some summer nights. Loves a fire pit and roasting marshmallows. She cant remember the previous caravan as she was so little.
Ive even told her we will try and go to some CCC meets to get to know other local members and pick up tips and she wasnt even phased by that haha.

Its all pretty exciting! As long as she has some phone / wifi signal for the evening, she will be fine lol

Our granddaughter came with us until she was 18 years, and would still be coming if we had the caravan. She loved it whatever the weather and we loved her company.

Welcome aboard,,My son was 3 months old when we first took him camping, he's now fifty,I have a picture of myself my son and two grandkids on the same site (18 and 22) that we've always used in Cornwall since I was 12.My greatgrand daughter is in the throws of enjoying a tent on the top of their Volvo...I wish you good luck on your choice of Caravan,,,,Gary.

DA is a Caravan & Camping Club (CCC) District Association - many of which organise meets for their members which are good value by all accounts.
That’s why I was unfamiliar with the term. I was always a CMHC member. (Not that I am suggesting one is better than the other). Though my feeling is that the CCC is probably best for younger members.

Welcome to the forum , Make sure you get a visual damp report in your hand , not just an assurance 'there is no damp' My grandaughter started coming with us to folk festivals at 15 , now 25 and still loving it.
