Hi

We don't seem to be using our cooker much at all. Question is if we removed it (or got the dealer to) would we then be able to discount it's weight from the MIRO,and Recalculate the Payload to what the cooker weighed ???.

Second question is would this alter the towing stability of the van ??? i.e weight distrubution on the chassi.

Thanks

Val & Frank

I don't believe for one moment that caravan manufacturers pay any heed to weight distribution!

If you are removing original equipment included in the weight figures, then, you can use that weight within the payload.

I removed my oven ( which had never been ignited) and sold it to a narrow boat owner.

Instead I bought a very light, table top oven and a seperate boiling ring and do all the cooking in the awning.

Hello Frank,

Just to add alittle more meat to Rod's reply, The MIRO is to all intents and purposes a theoretical figure, and if you were to measure all caravans as they came off the production line, I suspect that the variation of weights could be quite surprising.

If you were to assume teh quoted MIRO was correct and you worked out the therotical payload (MTPLM -MIRO) and then use the whole of teh payload, you could easily exceed the MTPLM because of the inaccuracy of the MIRO figure.

The more important figure (as it is used by the law enforcement agencies) is the MTPLM, and I am sure you probably already know that the total weight of the caravan (less the tow hitch load) must not exceed this figure. The only secure way keeping within this limit is to weigh your caravan.
