Fitting a back panel to the seating in Swift Challenger

Hi Folks,

Has anyone fitted a back panel to the first seating on the left as you walk into the caravan?

The seating on the opposite side has the kitchen worktop side, and pull up extra shelf, so when sitting watching TV / reading a book your able to rest and feet up.

But on the opposite side there is nothing to rest your back on, has anyone managed to find a way if adding a strong panel which could support a person resting their back on?

Much like the below, maybe there's a kit or a how to for this... maybe asking too much..

On ours, the side panel is raised a few inches and there is an end shaped cushion. But not enough to provide support, just to hold the end cushion in place. The previous owner cut a curved peace of ply which was simply stood up and held in place by the seat cushion. Decent idea, but I did not like the appearance.

First we are trying things without extra support as the van was designed. As we tend to sit at the front end anyway.

If we decide we want more support, I will get a piece of smoked perspex cut to shape. This might hold in position , or I might screw to the end panel below the seat cushion height.

Going back in the days of Swift Talk forum someone actually posted a picture of what they had done, just as you are thinking off. Unfortunatly you can no longer pull up pictures since it closed

I believe some Swift caravans get over this problem with a shaped piece of wood extending up above the seat base supported by two wooden legs going down into the base. I believe that they just pushed down for easy removal.

Yes we had the dealer make up a back piece to fit in there. We then had some foam cut so that it was higher then the board, but same shape as the board. The foam "pillow" was about 6 - 8 inches thick so comfortable to rest against to watch TV. I may have a picture of it somewhere, but will need to dig.

Thank you, that would be great
