Fitting stabiliser bracket - quick answer if you can, please

My towbar gets fitted tomorrow and I intend having the stabiliser bracket fitted at the same time. However, does it matter which side of the towball the actual coupling part goes? It's one of the leaf spring type stabilisers, I think they're called. Not an integrated one that fits on the hitch.

It doesn't matter which side it goes but its better on the side opposite the jockey wheel if its a clamp on the side type of jockey

Scott used to do a double one that fitted both sides --probably still do

If you have the 12N/S sockets together on one side then its better if the stabiliser bracket is on the other side

hi netti

as john said they can be fitted on either side BUT if you look at the blade coupling bit thats the bit that goes into the bracket it will be handed ie left or right (usually right)it can be made left handed by stripping it down and reversing the coupling, however before fitting make sure it will not foul on anything also the foot and bracket that goes on the van a frame will obviously have to be on the same side.

before fitting follow these few simple rules :-

1. look at the van a frame how is the jockey wheel fitted ie inside the a frame or outside if it is inside the bracket can go either side if the wheel is outside then the bracket can only go on the other side.

2. the 12s and 12n plugs should ideally be together on one side of the ball hitch and these plugs should be on the opposite side to the stabiliser.

Thanks for the quick response. That link is really helpful John. Seems I have the better of the 2 blade Bulldog stabilisers which is good. One slight problem I have tho is that I haven't bought a caravan yet, so I don't know where the jockey wheel is going to be. Are they usually on the left or right, or does it depend on manufacturer?

Usually on the nearside/doorside in UK or right looking at the front of the van
