Fixed Bed Locker

Hi,

My caravan does not have an outside locker to access under the fixed bed like some models. I was told by a caravan dealer not to have 1 fitted as they always leak. Anyone experience of fitting one or comments?

Its a standard fitting on many fixed bed vans so the dealer may just not want the job

I have fitted several to my own vans over a number of years with no leaks so far

If you make a cardboard template that is a good fit first and after cutting out the hole use tape mastic it should be Ok

We have the transverse fixed bed on the Ace Award Nightstar and the locker door gives access across the full width of the van which is excellent for chair storage etc

I had one added to my van on purchase. As mentioned it is relatively easy to fit, but I chickened out and got the dealer to do it. H emade a better job with the decals than I could have. However, I did insist on a door with 2 locks, not a single middle lock as i felt this would be more secure. There is a good rubber seal and to date I have experienced no problems. It definitely makes grubbing about under the bed a lot easier especially to get chairs and table etc out and in.

As mentioned go for the Thetford door this has the 2 locks, they do different sizes.

If you do it yourself check behind where you are going to cut and check the size then check again and again and again. When cut the hole looks really BIG!

I usually start inside near the floor with a smalll drill work upwards to find where the botton inside batten is located
