Fixed Carpet

We have recently purchased a 2004 2 berth, end bathroom, swift lifestyle, with a fixed carpet which is a bit worn and grubby, we would like to replace it with lino and removable caravan mats, has anyone done this and if so how easy or hard is it?

Susan, the difficulty with fixed carpet is that it is laid before any fittings are fitted, so it is anchored by all the seating etc.

The only options you have are to cut it as tight as possible to the low level lockers etc and replace the bit that comes up, and unless it is carpet again, you will have a small step, or edge of carpet, showing.

I've done this, and it wasn't all that dificult. A good sharp craft knife and a steel straight edge are needed, and a bit of patience to do a neat job.

If the carpet comes up neatly, it makes a good template for the lino.

Depending on the nature of your furniture, you can then use aluminium edging strips (from DIY store), which will screw down around the edge, or wooden beading, to keep everything neat.

Add a couple of rugs, and you're away.

Much better than fixed carpet.
