Hi, as any one fitted the Maxview Omnisat crank up satellite dish, or have any experience of them, difficulty of fitting, ease of use etc.

Thanks Allan & Gill.

no experience. I did consider buying one, but was talked out of it by our caravan dealer! Main issue was that you need to pitch in direct line to receive a signal, wheras with portable dish, you have the flexibility to move it around on your pitch.

Regards

We use the very cheap Lidl/Maplins kit and we have had to move the dish around the van to avoid trees etc.

My advice is save the money, do not cut holes in your van, avoid putting extra weight high up and buy a cheap portable kit.

We have always ended up with perfect signals so far.

I agree. Fixed satellite dishes only really make sense for motor homes if one is constantly on the move and where setting up time is a major issue.

Thanks for all your replies, we have used a portable system now for a couple of years, and to be honest although it is very easy to align the dish & receive a signal, we find it is just another chore to do when arriving & leaving site, and with being a 54cm dish + tripod, cable etc, and even with it's own carrying holdall takes up a fair bit of room when in transit in the van, so we have opted for the fixed version, and if we get stuck for a signal we can always fall back on to the 530 aerial. I think the real truth is as we are getting older we want things that bit easier (lazy b*gers) so up for sale soon will be a 54cm dish + tripod + a 66cm dish for use further south and all cables.

Allan & Gill.
