Could you explain why you think you have defied Britain for 12 years?
Because of U.D.I. .. Unilateral Declaration of Independance by Ian Smiths government in 1970 and governed by whites until 1979. Then Official U.N. monitored elections put Muzorewa. Mugabwe came to power in 1980 and to the people who rebelled against Britain things didnt look too bright. It was then that the Motherland began to look it bit more rosier for them . A similiar thing happened in Uganda but it was mostly Indians who moved from there to the U.K.

OK, but "defied Britain"? What has it got to do with us?

The U.S. got independence but I've never heard any Americans gloating how they "defied" us.

I've been round a lot of the last few fragments of the British empire over the last 20 odd years as we we're handing control back and all of them loved being in the empire and we're all very, very friendly.

This sounds a little like racism to me.

Actually my comment was a bit tongue in the cheek like those who like to fly the English flag in Wales to get up nose of the Welsh. Perhaps defy was the incorrect word to us.

Lord B I thank you for your enlightenment of the acronyms used on this forum. I was begining to think that they were of amore crude nature and Joe Public was too embarressed to define them. Many thanks - you have put a retired brain to some use as I will now be able to understand each posting in its full light.
