I know this has been a subject on here in the past but again not sure where .

We have been to our van today in storage only to find loads of flies that wernt there 2 weeks ago

Can any one give clues as to where they might come from

Sir Roger

Flies get into vans through all kinds of entrances, like fixed ventilation, even under windows and over winter in the van, usually in cupboards, behind the fridge etc and lay eggs which over winter until the warmer weather.

Practically there is no way of preventing this happening.

The only solution is to spray the van interior when you lay the van up for winter, and again a couple of times whilst in storage and again at the pre season check and getting ready to go away time, especially as the weather warms up.

Whilst away in the van you can spray just as you leave the van for the day, or few hours to go shopping, and it will have killed any flies in the time you are away and have dispersed by the time you get back.

Hi there Sir Roger. I suspect that your van was full of bluebottle type flies, these flies hibernate over the winter in a dry warm enclosed area away from frost and sometimes in huge numbers but ALWAYS anywhere near a farmyard. The animal dirt that collects in farmyards attracts the flies to any nearby shelter as winter sets in so that they are near their food source when they emerge in spring. This is a common problem to farmers who often find thousands of them covering the insides of the farmhouse roof where they roost in huge colonies, i had a cottage on a farm once and entering the roof void during winter was straight out of a horror film.....move your van away from any farmyard if its stored near one and give it a spray with fly killer, or, fit insect shields to all vents inside the van

The flies are called cluster flies if you want to do a little of your own research online. We have had them in our loft space, we had them for approx 4 years on the trot however now and I'm keeping my fingers crossed we haven't had them back this year. Our problem was really bad the first year, we got the local council pest control in cost us
