Hi,

Re:Folding Solar Panel vs Roof Top Fitted Solar Panel

Recommendations greatly appreciated, currently we use a Hyundai Generator. But I quess the solar option is quieter! With regard to the folding panel, do you need to keep pointing it towards the sun?

Thanks

To get optimum performance the panel needs to directly face the sun, But that is impractical, so most users will have them angled to face the sun at midday. Although best performance will be with direct sunlight, some panels can still give some charge even in over cast conditions.

The bigger the panel the better, but its also a good idea to use a charge controller which will maximise the panels output as well as protecting the batteries from overcharging.

Hello Alphpets,

I not you have asked an identical question in the Technical section. Please can try to avoid multiple postings in different sections, as it can become confusing for everyone.

Can I Suggest that all further comments on this thread are directed to Technical section, not here.

You are quite correct, I posted in the technical section 1st, then realised that this being equipment etc might be better placed. I then apologised in the Technical Section asking for it to be removed. As you are a moderator, perhaps you can remove it please?

Just a clue, Moderators have the word 'Moderator' under their avatar. ;)
Are you sure he's not in cognito :p

The Avatar tag isn't very conspicuous so I use green moddying text to make up for it. Hopefully I can sort it all out. :)
The topic could have been submitted to either message board and wouldn't be out of place.
I've deleted the surplus original post and added the two replies that were received from that message board to this thread..

I knew that, it was done very tongue in cheek, my concern for ProfJohnL "today a moderator, tomorrow the world"...

Just had 12 nights then a further 7 nights on Temporary Holiday Sites, I found my 150w folding solar panel did the job well and kept the 110amp battery fully charged. On first site did use TV with sat receiver for around 3hrs a night. Also used it in February for 4 nights and battery was kept charged up, no TV but Alde heating pump on most of the time. Turned panel 3/4 times, it got the morning sun at 7.00am between trees, then mid day, then evening.
