Recently purchased a 007 plate Ford Mondeo Ttitenium X, It only had one set of remote controles , which at the time did not appear to be a problem, as I have in the past I have purhased a second set of car keys without any problems.
Well I was rudely awakened to the modern world of Car computers, Ford in their wisdom found great difficulty in supplying to my local dealer the correct remote control, despite being given all the technical data relating to my car .
Photoes of the cars remote control sent to Fords and still the wrong part being given to my dealer.
At last the correct remote control with key was supplied , when the two sets of remote controls were set up with the Fords computer it came up with the magic words that computers use, the cars computer requires a update( also required a input of extra cash) before the new data can be inputted into the remote controls.
When the update was complete it informed people that the steering lock which is motor driven has to be changed before the process can begin.Apparently some steering locks had failed so in the interest of safety it was advisable to fit a new one, extra cash again £95 .
On the plus side of this experience Fords gave me the new steering lock as a gift because of all the agro in supplying the wrong parts in the course of getting a second remote control.
On reflection if I had not insisted that Fords supply me with a new remote, The main frame computer would have kept silent about the suspect steering lock , could it have failed causing a accident, who knows ,at least driving the car now I know that it is fully up todate with its technical information, safety being the big issue.
Technical Information with the Titanium x you do not fit a normal car key into the car , to twist the key which also releases the locking of the steering colum to start the car, you get into the car with the wireless remote control in your shirt pocket, press the clutch in press the starter button which releases the steering lock and fires up the engine, to turn the engine off just press the starter button.
