I tow our Avondale Dart 470 / 2 with our 04 reg 2.0 l136 BHP without any trouble at all, infact it is the best tow car I have had. We are thinking of buying a newer C Max but i am not able to find a 2.0 locally (Cheshire) but there are loads of 1.8 diesels available, approx 113 BHP. My question is does anyone have an opinion on the towing performance of the 1.8 113 BHP against the 2.0 136 BHP vehicle.

I looked at this very same issue myself earlier this year
If i recall correctly, the 1.8 TDCI has almost 100nm of torque over the 2L petrol
On that basis, i would say (on paper) that the diesel should make a far more effective tow car.
