Hello Trevor,
Like you I have been unable to find all thetowing details for the car.

Your best bet will be to contact a Ford dealer or Ford themselves.

The dealer that I recently purchased my Mondeo Titanium x 140 bhp from has a 2010 Kuga same engine as mine , road tax G which this year is £175, cannot comment on the mpg as I intend to try the car out towing this Monday on a 90 mile trip to Ferry meadows, The car is fitted with a onboard computer which can analize the amount of fuel you use on a given journey, I must admit the mpg was the least of my worries, as long as i can get no interupted journeys ( my last car had a habit of going into engine management modes where you suddenly went into limp mode, causing me a lot of problems its computer used to flash to a area towhich could have been 1 of 4 all the replacement parts being expensive).

Hi I had the Ford Kuga 136 bhp 2WD for 2 years and now I have the 163 bhp 4WD
The Ford stated max tow for both cars was 2100kg and the nose weight was 105kg
I get about 40 to the gallon solo on short runs and 28 towing
Its a superb towcar with the short rear overhang
I don't find that the 4WD tows any steadier than the 2WD on roads but caravan fields etc the 4WD traction is better
I can't comment on the road tax as the car is registered disabled
I hope that helps even though I missed the AUTO bit

Isn't the 85% of the kuga about 1460?. This is quiet low isn't it x
An 85% figure of 1460 kg is respectable for a compact crossover, comparable with a Hyundai iX35 or Kia Sportage.

If you want to tow heavier and stick within 85%, you need to get up with the big boys!

totally agree with you. We had a 57 plate Santa Fe loved it. I've seen ix35 towing vans to big for them shocking really x

The 85% recommendation is only for beginners.
Experienced caravans can tow up to 100%.
I tow around 92%.

Technically a vehicle can legally tow up to the limit of its Maximum Baraked Trailer Weight allowance provided the Gross Train Weight of the combination is not exceeded. However it is always sensible to keep the trailer weight as small as possible. Though it is always a vexed question of how small should it be. Neither the 85% or the 100% suggested ratio's offer any guarantees of stability or safety.
Any driver with a full licence attained after 1st Jan 1997 is only licenced to tow an outfit where the combined Maximum Authorised Mass of the combination does not exceed 3500Kg, And the trailers MTPLM does not exceed the Tow vehicles UnLaden Mass.

The above startment is incorrect. The law was amended in January 2013.

It's largely academic whether post-1997 drivers can legally tow over 100% or not - because it's not recommended for caravans and the 3500 kg outfit limit imposes the main restriction.

You can drive vehicles up to 3,500kg Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) with up to 8 passenger seats (with a trailer up to 750kg).

You can also tow heavier trailers if the total weight of vehicle and trailer isn’t more than 3,500kg. The fully loaded trailer can’t weigh more than the unladen vehicle.

This gets discussed endlessly - the 100% legal limit was dropped for new drivers this year - it's unclear whether it still applies to drivers qualifying between 1997 and 2012.
DVLA, Directgov and the gov.uk websites are too general to tell exactly what the situation

I quite agree, As in other areas of Driver licencing dates are important as they define the changes in permitted limits, so in the absence of absolute definition the only safe thing to do is err on the side of safety and assume the limitation applies.
I do concesed I should have put date limits in my answer.
