Beachball, millions of motorists go about their daily drives without ever needing to put their batteries on a charger. I bought a CTEK smart charger in 2004 primarily to help to maintain the caravan battery when I removed it from the caravan and stored it in the garage. In 2015 I used the charger to put some amps into an 8 year old Nissan Note battery. We had been on holiday for 4 weeks that February and the Note wasn’t keen on starting when we got back. . That’s the only time it has ever been used on a car. The only circumstance s that I envisage you might benefit from one is if you don’t use the Tourneau very much in winter then when you need it you have lights, fans, heaters etc all running.

See what your dealer says first before splashing out on a charger you may never need. They can be bought in Aldi, Lidls for a low price or top spec ones at £100+
Hi Clive thanks for the useful info about a charger i waiting to see what my dealer advises me to do on this matter (y)

It will certainly not be advice for you to recharge the battery on the vehicle as that would be very irresponsible of them considering the vehicle is so new.

I can't understand saying recharging a battery that is 7 months old can be "very irresponsible" advice? Be that by giving the vehicle a decent run or if that is not practical/convenient, using a quality low current smart charger.
At the very best starter batteries in our domestic vehicles only hold just over a "Unit" of electrical energy, KWh, that could easily be lost through time and usage where a good run has not been made to replenish that energy. A battery in a new vehicle could well be a prime case, a multitude of starts and huge reticence of dealers putting mileage on the Odometer.

Do remember that you have only 30 days from the purchase to reject the car if it cannot be repaired to your satisfaction and that repair is at your discretion. I would be temped to remind them of the position if the 30 day limit still applies. .

On some cars, charging ‘ON’ the car can cause damage to the car's electronics. If this is the case, then giving a boost may not be a simple and straightforward task. Exposing the battery, removing a terminal. Or removing the battery completely. It may also disrupt anything held in memory.

If it were me, I would just leave it to the dealer. That's what they get their money for. A modern car, even with all its power demands, should have sufficient charging ability and monitoring circuitry to manage short journeys. Mine has not been a problem in that way, and I mostly do short journeys. I have only managed 2400 miles in 8 months.

Mine has a battery monitor. When stop-start kicks in the voltage drops like a stone. But comes back really quickly as soon as the engine restarts.

I was referring to the dealer telling BB to put his battery on charge.

One of the reasons I will never buy another Ford was the dreadful service we had from local Ford dealer, from whom we had bought the car, when I had similar problems to Beachball.

That indicates that low battery may be the issue
Just had a phone call with my dealer you are correct the battery is low and they putting it on a overnight charge and told me with it been a diesel it needs a good run once a month ,
Also all the faults have been cleared after the diagnostic check
Except both mirrors are faulty and new ones have been ordered hopefully be hear tomorrow

I rarely run my tow car, Disco, through the winter months, its owned for towing. Its not the ideal car for use as our "shopping trolly", nor our most fuel efficient.

I leave it for long periods with a CTEK charger plugged into the rear towing 13 pin socket, via a homemade, special purpose lead using their plug and socket system.
This set up being way more convenient in my case than directly onto the battery, or under bonnet as the vehicles front end is a tight and dead end fit in the garage.
This the same as I did for years with Defenders where the battery under the seat was even less accessible.
{CTEK, rather than my Aldi/Lidl semi clones as we have overhead cabling with more than our share of power outages]

Our nearest supermarket is about 10 miles away so not really a decent run for the Jeep. We mainly use the Corolla for the short trips unless the weather is bad.

Well at present only had the car short while and service has been second to none..... so far
I think your dealership have been very good, particularly in taking your car in during the festive season and providing you a loan car too. I’ve had a Cortina mk2, and three Mondeos and have no complaints wrt Fords, all were enjoyable to drive and own.

BB who makes the running with CRA ? You or the Motorbility team? It occurred to me you may have extra leveridge with the dealer. So far their treatment of you seems beyond the norm. You’re very lucky so far

Glad to say my own car to be returned today until the parts will be delivered [problems with back orders and not due until 29th Jan]. The mobility scooter has been with car and needed for getting around, wheelchair not as adaptable or independent for me,

Are your mirrors back in the out position? If so make sure they don’t default to the IN position when the car is locked. Replacement units probably somewhere near The Cape of Good Hope.

Good to hear it is sorted but it took far too long. Never had to wait for more than a couple of days for bits on my cars.
