I'm going to go to the south of France next year with my van, I'm thinking of getting a late night ferry, can you stay in Calais port when you get off the ferry until the morning

Hi. I don't know myself but a quick forum search found this answer to the same question. It was posted in 2010. If you type calais into the search box you may find more.

"Yes there is, leave the port in the usual way, at the first roundabout go all the way round and return to the port following the Sans Billet signs, you will see plenty of vans parked there, There are toiltes and shower availabe in the main building. We stop there over night every year. This year travelling by Norfolk Line, so hoping they have the same facility at Dunkerque, if not, then it's a quick trip back to Calais for the night.Steve W"

Our personal late night preference is one of the service areas along the road. Constant noise and the Calais night time spooks with the poor security are not ideal before a long drive.

It's worth knowing this titbit of info - when we did france a couple of years back we pulled off just through the first set of tolls and slept in the little truck stop with a couple of other caravaners.

It may be worth considering DFDS as we had a similar question this year with our sailing to Dunkirk, the Dunkirk terminal is easy, lots of space for caravans and the police patrol the area, also showers are available in the morning. It was so good that this year we will be travelling out to Dunkirk to use the overnight stop but returning via Calais as DFDS now have a Calais route.
