freelander auto

the front brakes creak and groan when I release brake pedal. LR dealer says this is a known fault only on freelander due to auto gearbox exerting a constant forward pressure. Has anyone got the same fault or fixed it

many thanks

Bob

i have an auto grand cherokee which does exactly the same thing, but ive never regarded it as a fault for the reasons your dealer has expressed.if you stop a manual car on a slope and slowly release the brake the same thing will happen.in normal driving this goes unnoticed because on the flat the manual doesnt move off when you release the brake.removing the brake pads and rubbing the shine off with some sandpaper will cure it,but only until they polish up again.

Thanks for your message craig. I have driven auto jeep/rav4 and many front wheel drive cars and no brake creaks. In traffic it is quite annoying. perhaps it is the brand of brake pads.Dealer says it does not happen on other models

ive had this happen on many cars, but always using fairly hard pads.perhaps softer pads or even grooved discs may cure it.

Having owned a good number of auto's it's something that always happens when the car is held in drive and the pressure on the brake pedal diminishes slightly. Obviously not a fault with manual boxes as drive is obviously disconnected as the clutch pedal is depressed and the parking brake applied. Due to possible low oil pressure issues within autoboxes, I always tend to select neutral and apply the parking brake (at traffic lights for instance). This is also good for the vehicle behind, as they aren't given a face full of brake lights.
