FREELANDER DIESEL AUTO.

I currently have a freelander diesel auto 03 plate and just about to buy a caravan is this a good tow car, any thoughts welcome. Martyn

I have a 06 Freelander manual, it's a fantastic towcar and would not hesitate in recommending it.

Hi Martyn.

My son's partner ahs got a TD4 manual(03) and they have a lot of bother with it.

Waterlaeks are frequent. It is ussed to tow a twin horse box and while it tows, it does feel under strain. They have also had a lot of wheel bearing replacements and brake pads don't last long.

Their previous TD4 (y plate) gave up it's gearbox via several shreaded gears. The cost of repair was higher than replacing it with a secondhand 03 car.

All in all, I would be very carefull. I'd certainly want a good warrantee on it.

We traded in our Jaguar S Type for an 06 Freelander TD4 Diesel Automatic - main reason was we've now got a dog and needed the space - fine as a tow car for us and would recommend it.

I had an 03 Freelander 2.0 TD4 and it pulled our Bailey Pageant like a dream. We had to change it as I purchased a new Coachman and I needed a bigger towcar.

You can be unlucky with any vehicle. I loved our Freelander.

had a 52 plate TD4 manual, great towcar, of course depends on the van, but mine pulled a 2004 Swift fairway easily and without any problems.

We tow with 05 TD4 Freelander Auto. Just got back from Chard in Somerset. First time towing with it Car went very very well. So much easyer wit a auto. The only thing i would say is getting into the boot area once caravan attached rear door only can be opened a bit. Also reversing back to connect up to caravan not easy with that spare wheel on the back. What i did was stick a pole in the ground just in front of the tow hitch and you can line up on this.
