I am thinking of buying a new TV for the caravan. I see Tesco is offering a TV with Freeview. My husband and I don't usually take a TV abroad, however we sorely missed it this summer as we were abroad when our town was flooded. If we have a TV with Freeview does that mean that we can view from abroad just using our Vision Plus Status 530 or do we need to get a satellite dish?

We do have Sky but don't want to be bothered with at that fuss - we've seen people outside their caravans fussing for hours!!

If you take Freeview abroad without a satellite dish you will be able to receive local (foreign) TV channels but not any English ones. The digital TV coverage that Freeview uses is fairly widespread on the Continent but it would be worth checking whether your holiday destination is included beforehand.

Thanks. What satellite dish would you recommend? There are so many available.

Hi Von, you will probably receive quite a great deal of advice on this subject. I could sit and type several pages based on my experience of TV onthe continent over many years. Save yourself a lot of trouble and go to David's web site at, www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk. I can't believe you will have any questions after that. I printed a copy and take it with me.JTS

Satellite is not as hard as some people think, but don't buy in the UK or you will be ripped off. Go to one of the DIY sheds - such as Leroy-Merlin at Cocquelles on the edge of Calais - and you will be able to buy a complete sat kit of 80cm dish, LNB (the bit on the front of the dish) and a 5000 channel preprogrammed Rx for _80 or thereabouts. Keep you eyes open in Lidl/Aldi as they do similar kits in the UK at about that price. The satfinder last time it was on sale in Lidl/Aldi was
