Fridge not cooling on gas

Hi All,

Whilst away a mate who has a motorhome said his fridge stopped chilling on gas, it first went really cold to almost freezing then wouldn't chill at all, works ok on 12v/230, any ideas as to problem would be really apprieciated.

Thank's in advance for any response.

If you look in the vents you will see a chimney for the exhaust gases, pull the top bit off and there is a twisted piece of metal held by a clip, it gathers soot.

You could clean that off and see if it makes a difference - if poss blow out the tube as well.

This might sound stupid, but this happen to me, the reason for my problem was that the 230v switch was in the on position. Cant have both running together.

All van fridges work in the same way. A heat source heats a gas mixture and by complicated physics this cools the fridge. If it works on 230 and 12 v then the gas mix must be OK. So is the gas lighting and staying alight? will know if it isn't by one of teh following: red pointer not pointing at green, neon light flashing, If the latter you might hear a clicking as the gas tries to light. If the gas is slighting and then still not cooling the only thing it could be is the thermostat, (the pilot is lighting but the main valve is not opening).

Sounds like a technical job to me. Might help here if you say which fridge because some Dometics had gas igniter problems and I understand some Thetfords had main board problems. (Both are normally reasonable.)
