Just hitched up our new to us towcar and when connected to car, fridge stays on 12v even when engine is not running, also there is no bleep when indicator working, previous car, fridge ran on 12v only when engine was running, and indicator gave a beep when connected to caravan, is it likely to be a relay needed or could the car need reprogramming?

If teh dealer described your car as being set up for towing, and the wiring is not to a recognised standard, then it was sold not as described and not fit for purpose. They should arrange to get it checked and rewired at their liability. ( Consumer Rights Act 2015).

There was a thread recently about this, the indicators beep or light only has to be when an indicator light is NOT working. E u reg 48 I think. On my tow car a 2014 Sante Fe the power to the van stays connected for about 1 to 2 minutes after switching off the cars engige, confused the hell out of me when checking out my electrics.

•Two red reflective triangles.
•An illuminated number plate.
•Amber indicators (designed to flash between 60-120 times per minute).
•Some form of letting the driver know trailer indicators are working correctly such as a buzzer or light.

Woodsie, on the SF the power from the car to the van stays live for about two or three minutes after turning off the engine then as the voltage drops the power goes off. We always have 12 volt suppy to the fridge control though. Also there is no beep on indicators unless a bulb is blown.
Hi Hutch bit of a schoolboy error on my part, turns out the fridge 12v light comes on when the ignition in the car is on, goes off when ignition is turned off,Shogun fridge came on when engine was running, so slightly different but looks like the new electrics are OK t Thank you for all your advice.

All our previous cars had either a beep when indicator was working or a light on dashboard that only worked when caravan attached,seems like the SF will tell if a caravan bulb is not working so just different system, sam end result
