FRIDGE PROBLEM

Hi all.
Hope someone may be able to offer some advice regarding a problem I seem to have with my fridge in the caravan I've just bought.
The fridge is a 3 way electrolux 123e. The caravan is a 1994 freedom microlite, so I assume the fridge is the same age. I have attempted to run the fridge through the mains, and freezer tray is getting cold so I assume it is working ok from the refrigeration side. However when I turn it on it, the red on switch flashes on and off like an indicator and makes an intermittent high pitched noise. I left it for a few hrs, and ithe problem remains. It also happens when I use the 12v supply. Ive not tried the gas yet.

Any suggestions as to what may be causing the problem will be appreciated.

I would suggest you do try gas, this very much sounds to me like the 12v auto ignition switch for lighting the gas?
If I'm correct, the light will stop flashing when the gas lights and the spark is stopped by the electronic flame recognition circuit , while on mains or 12v this switch should be left off.

When using 230v .shouldnt that switch be off anyway since thats only the gas ingnition switch? The red switch will always flash when in the on position. To be safe the fridge needs checking by someone qualified .
