Fridge problems - Avondale Rialto 640/6

Hello,

I have a problem with the above fridge, I can't seem to get it to work! I've tried both 240v and 12v. All the other electrics work on either voltage. Am I missing something obvious? I've checked all the fuses and all are OK. The manual doesn't cover the model of fridge in the 'van so I'm guessing its been replaced at some point. Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated.

Regards
Ian

First of all, the fridge will only work on 12v when conected to the car WITH the engine running. It will NOT work off the leisure batery alone.
It is possible that both heating element have failed, or the coolant has leaked.
Does it work and cool on gas?

Hi, this is just a wild stab in the dark, I remember a couple of years ago my brother in law thought his fridge had stopped working and went out and bought a replacement, he then spent considerable time and effort changing it, the replacement (2nd hand fridge) also failed to work, he then found out that because his drive was on a fairly steep slope the van was also sloping by quite a bit, now apparently the fridge has some sort of safety system fitted that prevents it from working if the van is more than a specified amount from level, does this apply to all caravan fridges? I have no idea but I'm sure someone will know, as to how much the van needs to be unlevel, again I've no idea, as for how level or not your van is it's easy for you to check, anyway just in case I thought I'd mention it.

The question of level is important, the van must be no more than 2 or 3 degrees out of level in both directions or it simply will not work.
It is not a safety device , it is simple laws of physics.
