Just wondering if I should have it cover the whole vent or leave a little bit exposed as the purpose made covers seem to.
The purpose-made covers are designed to be fitted in cold weather while the fridge is in use so needs some ventilation as air still needs to circulate - however if you only want to use the covers when the caravan is in storage, then no ventilation is needed.

I presume that even the manufactured covers covers should not be used when on gas. No problem as I like to have EHU and other facilities during winter.

You should remove one of the covers in most cases. Cannot remember which, but the leaflet with the covers will tell you.

Here's hoping that the stick on magnetic strip is up to the rigors of sunlight, wind and and motorway driving (obviously without the cover on)....

I was expecting strips of ferrous metal on either the new plastic cover or the caravan vent!
Wondered about the polarity of of magnetic tape fixed to magnetic tape - presume all ok if mounted in the right orientation?

I used this stuff.
One roll is “South pole”, the other “North pole”.

........I use a system of not covering the vents but restricting the air flow through them.
To that end I fit the restriction inside the vents.
The restriction I use is the plastic foam material of the sort that is fitted behind domestic heating radiators. The stuff that is flexible and has aluminium foil on one side.
It's counter intuitive but the whole point is to alow the workings of the absorption fridge to be able to reach a high enough working temperature during ambient temperatures below 6 degrees C.
I need to be able to use my fridge with the restrictions in place during gas operation so the top vent is sized so as not to restrict the burner exhaust.
I usually fit the restrictions when towing with the fridge on 12volt operation as the airflow across the vents can also over cool the fridge workings and affect its cooling efficiency.

I am wondering if it would have been easier to cut those plates to size and fit them inside the vent then no need for any tape?

Don't forget to leave the gaps at tge bottom of the lower vent and the top of the higher vent, and don't obstruct where the chimney from the gas burner exits. (If planning on using the fridge that is)

My Dometic fridge is now 15 years old.It came with two vent covers which both get removed on site when temperatures are above 8 Deg C..You will see from the following pics the top vent when attached does not obscure the gas burner flu as explained by Bill. Newer caravans with the massive fridges don’t seem to come with optional vent covers? Why not? Pass🤔🤔
