Fridge winter vents

Have just returned from Scotland, where we had some cold, windy nights. Inside the van there were very cold draughts arround the fridge. Could these be cured by fitting winter vents, and retaining the originals for strictly summer and continental use?

I know the fridge needs venting, but I don't! Any suggestions?

Hi Paul,

Winter fridge vents just clip over the existing ones, so there would be no need to remove the originals.

We have never felt the need to use winter vents at this time of year. :O)

Paul, the fridge *should* be room sealed!!!

If you have draughts coming in the van, then obviously it is not.

You can do one of two things, if the van is still under warranty, get your supplying dealer to rectify the situation.

If it is not, get some fire retardant foam and cut it into strips wide enough to make a tight seal around the fridge and press it into place from access through the outside vents, after taking them off, along the top edge, down both sides and along the bottom.

Make SURE you do not have any touching the vent tube, or anywhere near the gas burner and electric elements.

Winter vents must only be used if the outside temperature remains below 10 degrees centigrade. If used above 10 degrees the efficiency of the fridge will be greatly reduced and could cause damage.As Damian has said if you are experiencing draughts your fridge is not sealed.
