As I have posted before we obtained a front cover after driving over a newly resurfaced road and the front of the van was speckled in tar. I tried every treatment suggested on the forum but some was still on the front when we sold the van.
Never go anywhere without the front cover nowdays

Mike, how do you clean the front of your 'van before fitting the cover for the return journey? When I'm touring I sometimes only stay one night but it's surprising how much dust & dirt coat the front of the caravan from vehicles using gravel site roads, especially in drier climes. I would worry about fitting a cover if the front wasn't spotless.

Love mine.i bought a universal one of gumtree 2nd hand bargain.Bought it more to protect front rather than keep front clean.I usually give the van a quick swill off night before return journey, then it's nice and clean/dry when ready to leave.

Those with a Bailey front window that I have seen covered still leave the top of the window exposed so the risk of breaking it is still there. We have caravanned all my life and never had a front damaged. Auto Glym tar remover has always worked removing any tar from car or caravan.

Two or three years ago I bought one and fitted it before I set off for southern Spain. It certainly kept the front nice and clean but when I stopped on the journey for one or two days each time, it was not nice having the front window covered. Then when I reached destination it had to be folded and then stored somewhere. Fortunately when I put in on ebay I got almost as much as what I'd initially paid.

Ordered a made to measure cover from Specialised Covers (I think that was their name) at last year's NEC show - got a £25 discount. A doddle to fit with a zip to one side and a couple of elasticated hooks under the front.
Folds up easily into its own bag. Very pleased with it.

Going back to the original question, the cost of a window rises as it gets larger, but not in proportion. From our various caravans, the big danger with large ones is flexing, though as they do bend when you open them.

Neither auto glyn or white spirit removed all the tar no matter how many times I tried.

When away I usually wash the front as best as I can before fitting the front

I think the cost was about £140 and as far as I am concerned was money well spent

Hi Robf1234
Have checked through my caravan file. The front cover was supplied by Specialised Cover and cost £174 after discount. There are cheaper, universal covers but mine is well made and fits properly, complete with small "windows" for the front caravan lights to shine through.

Mike
