Frost on the caravan to day

This morning there was a layer of frost on the van, do you think it may be time to empty the water tanks in the toilet?

If you're not using the van, then yes! I would if I were you.

If for no other reason than avoiding algae I would always drain the toilet header.
Not emptying the bottom tank would never have crossed my radar.

So having these both empty and the blade valve left just off the seal I think is the better option if the van is not actually in use.

im going away in my new van this weekend, it has a rear bathroom, never had one before. the toilet is right in the rear corner of the van a long way from any heat source, do i need to worry about the system freezing up at all?

Hi ww2nut,
i have a end bathroom theres no problem of it freezing up,dont forget after your trip,make sure you drain the flush,toilet,and your main water eg, hot water tank,and on board water tank.then you wont have any problems.enjoy your trip away All The Best Alan P/T

thanks for that, when we collected the van the toilet cartrage was full of water?? and the boiler was full, both being near the back of the van it made for some interesting towing

if you are away leave the door ajar so heater can pass through van.

Well arnt we lucky our 5 year old van has a heating duct in the bathroom so it is always warm when we have the heating ticking over when frost beckons.

Hi so what you are saying is your dealer filled your toilet cartridge and flushing tank with water and expected you to tow it in that condition, Do they not know you empty all water tanks before towing, Can i suggest you dont take any advice of them if this is what they practise. ps you'l probable find your bathroom will be the warmest room in your caravan and will make an ideal drying room for wet coats and towels.

I don't know whether you have read in another topic in this forum that the caravan industry is planning to define the items contained in the MIRO of the caravan and apparently water in the tanks will be included. I would imagine that this is to harmonise with MIRO of motor homes where this is already the case.

Hi Lutz thats fine but ww2nuts did state with the boiler and cassette full of water it made for some interesting towing, So someone along the line as made a very dangerous mistake. Are we not when collecting a new caravan given time with someone who should demonstrate the caravan and give tips on loading it properly.
