hi ive stupidly not drained down my van for the winter. i checked it out yesterday and found ice out of the tap. i cant turn the taps as there solid.should i just leave it and hope for the best or try to thaw things out. whats the poss chance of no damage or am i knackered. steve

Hi Stephen,

If it were me I'd put some heat into the van to thaw it out. Lift the cushions over the water heater so heat gets in there as well. You may need to try to get the insulation off it as well. Sadly any damage happens as it freezes but it may not all be solid yet.

I've had pipes freeze in the past when the system hadn't drained down properly and the only damage (if you can call it that) was the pipes pushed off the taps. They were only a taper push fit. I'm not sure you've got away so lightly though if you've got ice out of the tap.

i would let it thaw naturely adding heat could make condensation form in parts that are dry and the re freeze.the damage is mostly done when it freezes because water expands when it freezes.

have o agree, I would let it thaw, but try and keep an eye on it as it does, to make sure the van is not flooded.

A mate of mine forgot to drain down his static, but as most of his pipe work is pvc, it will be no prob repairing.
