Hi Surfer You quite are correct with saterlite , because as you say you receive all the same channels wherever you are depending of course you correctly position your dish.
With Freeview the signal I was refering to , you receive the signal from the local transmitter,each local transmitter transmits on different frequences, hense the retuning on different sites, to receive the signals.
Nearally all CC sites receive signal via freeview on their site boxes.

Use a scart lead and there will be no need to retune every tiem you move. This is the large 21 pin plug on the rear of the TV or receiver, however if Freeview is built in, then enter menu and click onto auto tuning.

I've just bought one of those 12 led signal finders.
It works a treat on my 512 Ariel, just plug the white Ariel lead in and turn the Ariel for max number of lit LEDs, it also has a buzzer that increases in pitch with signal strength.
Bought it cheaper of amazon.

Problem solved! Sent tv back and got new one (different make) and it works! no fannying around with ariel, perfect pic. So thank you for all your suggestions and comments.
