If you do decide to go to Rosemarkie another site which you would like just further on up is the CC site at Brora (Dalchalm). Right next to the site is a golf links, which you can use. From the site theres a footpath across the links (about a 4 minute walk) which takes you onto an empty long sandy beach . When we were there Arctic Terns was nesting on some shingle and they let you know if you got too close to their nests by dive bombing you. In June we didnt take the dogs for a walk until late at night. One night it was 11.15 and still twilight and we passed someone on their way to the beach taking their dogs for a walk.

Hi Jim and Pauline,

Another nice site is the CC site at Dunnet Bay -thats right on the coast - really nice sandy beach. Unfortunately the amenities are old, but however serviceable enough if you use them. (We don't)

Thanks for the recommendations, this was only our second visit to Scotland and, as its a long way from Bucks where we live, we took a few extra days to see a bit of the country. We found some good B&B's but we missed the van, especially because some of the sites looked very inviting. The farthest we got was Dornoch on the east coast where there is a great beach with a site right by the beach (and the inevitable golf links!). We thought Ullapool on the west coast was really beautiful and, again, there is a site right by the sea. We only had a few days and in that time we covered a lot of ground but we are trying to arrange 3 weeks in june next year so we can see a bit more. Its a lovely country. By the way, Lord B, we did manage to see the dolphins but we had to make 3 visits over the weekend and we had given up and were literally getting in the car when they appeared. It was well worth the effort and is highly recommended. The locals say the best time is 1 or 2 hours after low water when the tide is running in quite strongly. The salmon come in on the tide and the Dolphins wait for them by the point. Thats when you get the best show but when we saw them the tide was running out and we saw them passing back out of the firth.
