Last year we went down to Spain using toll roads and cruising at about 70mph and didn't worry too much about the costs. Noticed things we a lot dearer this year when we just popped across to France for 4 weeks especially the road tolls so we decided to cut down daily mileage and speed, just using non-tolls.

Very relaxing!

We thought about going down to Spain again late August for a few weeks so I thought I'd check on the toll prices using the Mappy on-line maps (http://www.mappy.fr/).

This is the calculated costs:- Notes de frais

Surely the old adage about coats and cloth comes into play here! If you can't afford it, don't go.

I never count the cost of spending on holiday, cos I know before I go wether or not I can afford it. If I can't, I stay home, or go somewhere cheaper.

We rally with Royale club eight times a year, five days each time, all over the UK. Twenty years ago, these rallies cost an average of

Too true Emmo. Another saying that's true is "it's no good trying to be the richest person in the churchyard". Your money is no use to you when you're pushing up daisies.

...should have added, per day!!

BTW, no takeaways!!
That's about right but then I suppose we cheat a litle becausee we take some food from home but try and buy fresh when on campsite. generally we buy the booze back home and take it with us and only have a drink or two in the local pub and then not every night. Very enjoyable and relaxing.

Just being nosey, Roger!

Have you, by chance been to Scotland recently, within the last two or three years, say? If you haven't then you will be in for a shock, food prices are way higher than we pay here in England, even in the main supermarkets, your

My advice would be, if you can afford it, go for a long haul holiday this year as i shudder to think what the cost of fuel will be next year.

Looks like a caravan swop could be an option for some people.

We have a Cameo 465 which could be pitched on the Coast or Inland in Scotland. For exchange with something similar located in say Dorset. Save 500 miles each way towing, but would still need to take the car so saving would not be that much. Or hire a Static I hear people say, but then you have to leave your

I agree with all of you.But the one thing that money can't buy is,in a caravan unlike a hotel. If you don't like the view you can change it.
