Furry bits growing

Just returned to the van (in storage) for the first time in 2weeks and was suprised to see some furry growths in one corner on the seat cushions and in the middle on the carpet. All the curtains have been kept closed and there are no mildew problems on them. The van is a 2001. What is it caused by - cold, moisture in air, lack of ventilation?? And whats the best way of stopping it returning (it will have to be left for 2 months now)? I heard about sillica gel will that help?? Mnay thanks

Hi Graham,

Have you checked the corner where the damp cushion is to make sure that you have not got a seepage of water coming through on the awning rail.the other thing to do is to put 2 largish (2pint)bowls full of salt in your caravan one at either end of the caravan and this will soak up the damp,re-dry the salt every 2weeks or so and that will keep down the damp.Give it a try see how you go.Good Luck.Jim

Dont whatever you do use salt as advised by Jim. Salt when damp gives off a gas which is corosive and will rust any nearby metal such as cupboard hinges. Caravan stores sell proper damp crystal and containers which are not expensive.
