Gadget going from one water butt to another

Can anyone help please? in the magazine recently, there was a gadget that saves you going out and transferring the water pump from the empty barrel to the full one. I have been through the last three months magazines and cannot find it ! does anyone know what is was called/who makes it/used it and is it any good?

many thanks

Can't remember what it's called, but (excuse the pun) you need to lie both barrels on their side and connect together via their previous top holes and draw the water out from a previous side hole. Need barrels with 2 holes ie 40 ltr Aquaroll not 25 ltr.

Both connection points need to be as low as possible so water can flow between barrels.

edit: See Stacie's Favourite Stuff, PCv November, page 12 (although the picture shows the pipe upright, not horizontal).

I use a 50 litre Water Hog and two 10 litre polythene containers - the Water Hog gets filled and rolled back to the caravan when we pitch up - and the two 10 litre containers are filled and taken back in the boot of the car each time we drive back into the site.

My mind boggles at needing more than one water barrel full !!

Roger, we normally stay on dog show showgrounds where a lot of the time there are no showers and taps are sometimes scarce - hence the need for two water butts. this gadget looked like a good idea cos I hate going out in the rain/dark to swap the butts over.

we go to a music festival where there can be queues for the water and so take the aquaroll and 2 x 20 litre plastic jerry cans and stock up so I can understand your thinking but I think looking at the connector its more trouble than its worth and a tiny leak could see you having a bog where your aquaroll sits.Good luck anyway

Of course, the problem is that both barrels run dry at the same time leaving no reserve. Me, I just send Mrs. Chrisbee out to transfer the pump from the empty barrel to the full one. Then I send her off to fill the empty one.

Good role reversal. I must show this to the wife. πŸ˜‰

Edit: ....... then run fast

When BOTH butts run out at the SAME time you have even more hassle in the rain/dark disconnecting all the pipework to go and fill them. Also, do you have a double-capacity waste container to collect the water from the 2x butt solution or do you have to go out in the rain/dark to empty it to make way for the second quantity??

ok - I'm starting to think this gadget is not worth the hassle πŸ™

That gadget wont work on all water containers, its designed for containers where the side opening and top are opposite to each other, If you have as we do the Royal Aquarius where both openings are on the same side you wont be able to open the container to pop the pump in, at the end of the day its already been said sooner or later you will have to fill 2 barrels, We only use the water for washing up, Showers are done on site and we buy bottled water for tea and coffee. our Aquaroll lasts a few days before it needs filling.

Hi Vardenais
Ignore the negatives. Make your own diy pipework and try it out.
We are lucky in that we have an on board water tank.
But we still use two barrels not connected.
When the on board tank empties a turn 0f two taps takes water from the aquarium. The other is in reserve.
when you are a dry long way from a tap, like 600 yards the other year doubling up is great.
As far as grey waste goes most CLs allow dumping in the hedge. Right or wrong I have no view.
Do what works for you.

Seems to me that there are three advantageous scenarios here:
1. if you can manage to drag two aquarolls to the tap and back again, at the same time then by having two connected together you have halved the number of trips to the tap. or...
2. If you serially refill each aquaroll as soon as it empties you never run out of water (great if using the on board shower. Or....
3. If you serially refill each aquaroll in the first bit of dry daylight that occurs after it empties, you never run out of water and you keep your PJs dry.

Simple logic really.
BTW I only use one aquaroll but when away, try to wash very little. πŸ˜—

Nice to have lots of water, but unless you have two Wastemasters or a serviced pitch, then presumably you have to empty between barrel fills.

Hi Vardenais,
The product you're referring to is called the Aqua Connect. Their website is currently down at the moment however you can still purchase the product from the Camping and Caravanning Club's online store where it is actually a couple of pounds cheaper! Thanks, Stacie https://shopping.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/search/?search=aqua+connect
